After a day of getting over her jetlag our first stop with Lucy was down the valley, where we met up with Tasha and Simon as well as Animitra. However, the highlight of the evening was definitely the enormous New York Pizza the three of us enjoyed on the way home.
The next day we dragged ourselves out of bed and onto the joys of public transport and headed over to Stradbroke Island for the day. Having never been to the island before we got off at the ferry terminal and decided to hop onto the first bus we saw coming and just get off where lots of other people were, which is how we found ourselves on the beach, soaking up some sun and playing a spot of beach cricket. Not easy with just three people, but we persevered nonetheless.
After a few hours we were beginning to bake, so we headed up to the road to see if we could find somewhere to eat. We were quite surprised to stumble upon a grubby little chip shop a little way along, as we had imagined a little seaside café, but we were soon happy enough with our bacon and egg butties and gallons of milkshake!
Once we were all suitably refreshed we headed on around the bay a little to see what else the island had to offer. Shortly afterwards we came to another little cove with another beach and soon realised that there really wasn't much else for people without a car and we relaxed on the sand until it was time to head back to the ferry to get us back to Brisbane.
While we were both working the start of her first week, Lucy took herself out and about around Brisbane to reacquaint herself with the sights and sounds of the area although the heat took a little bit longer to get used to than she had imagined and almost every day after work we had a call from her to say she was sitting by the juice bars and she would meet us there!!
The following weekend we headed down to Surfer's Paradise for a few days of sun, sea, sand and a cheeky beverage or two. We had booked ourselves into an apartment overlooking the sea and the waterways behind the main strip and once we were settled in we headed down to the beach for some much needed baking.
In the evening we headed into town for something to eat with a plan to sample a few drinks in one or two of the many bars along the street. However, after several cocktails in The Avenue we decided that the drinks here were just as nice as anywhere else and with thousands of 'schoolies' running around the streets, we settled ourselves in for the evening.
When it was finally time for us to leave we headed out into the throngs and began making our way back. Along the way we were accosted by a group of schoolies who asked Jen and Lucy if they wanted to be in some official photograph, much to their disgust as Lucy screamed "I'm 27 you know!!" at them.
The rest of the weekend was spent lounging around on the beach, playing cricket, splashing around in the sea and generally enjoying the time off from work. We even attempted to lie out on the beach on our final day, when the sun had hidden behind a wall of cloud, but once the rain began we all decided that enough was enough.
The rest of the week was spent back in Brisbane where unfortunately we had to go back to work, so Lucy spent the days in the sun and in the evenings we frequented some of our local bars such as the Rumpus Room and The Plough before the end of the fortnight was too quickly upon us and it was time for Miss Caselton to fly back to blighty yesterday.
It is now just the two of us again for a week, until McGooly comes up from Sydney next weekend.
