We made it - after 24 hours travelling, we finally got here! Flight from Sao Paulo to Rio was scary, they made us board the plane and it had been heavily raining all morning. Then as we all got on the sky turned pitch black, even though it was 10 am. So the pilot told us we couldnt take off yet and we sat on the runway during this tropical storm. When we finally did leave the flight was so turbulent the air hostesses werent even allowed to stand up for the whole flight!
Anyways made it and despite being sleep deprived we walked all the way along the coast to Sugar Loaf mountain and took the cable car up, wow the views were amazing. Christ the redeemer statue was visible at first but it clouded over quite quickly, but we could see everything and managed to get our bearings.
Loving Rio so far, despite the warnings we seem to be staying in a really nice area and havent felt at all threatened. Slept for 12 hours last night - needed it! So today we plan to look round the centro historico.
Will be in touch soon, lots of love! PS thanks for your text messages, our phones work so we can receive texts but its a bit pricey to reply.
