Hello hello!! Hope everyone had a fantastic Christmas and is eagerly preparing for a great New Year! We have finally managed to locate the strange phenomenon known as the ´internet´ and thus can update you on our last week or so.
Soo last time we blogged we were staying in the Costa Rican cloudforest and having a great time doing night time nature walks and poking tarantulas and such like. Well the following day we had an absolutely fantastic day doing canopying. Basically this involved about 14 ziplines, of between 400m and 1km long. These stretched right out over the valleys from one side of the mountains to the others. In places they were 100m high - pretty scary! We arrived at their office and had to sign a waiver which basically said about 10 times that if we die they get off scot free. My bravery at this point was starting to waiver!
But it turned out to be one of our favourite activities of the trip. It also involved a Tarzan swing which was 60ft high and was basically a small bungee which swung you right out over the trees. The worst bit was waiting for your turn to go and hearing the bloodcurdling screams of the person in front. We also had a 100ft rapel where you are lowered at speed vertically. Finally we did the superman zipline where you are strapped up like superman and sent off down the 1 kilometre line, just breathtaking scenary!! There is a little youtube video of it below (copy and paste into the browser line):

So after Monteverde we headed to the beach in Montezuma to get to our Christmas hotel. As we got there a day early (you cant always rely on central American transport) we had to check in to whatever was available and found ourselves in a dive on the beach with a tiny, baking hot room with cracked windows and manky sheets as curtains, and worst of all for me NO WATER, therefore no shower!! we made the best of it though and had a good few chilled out beers on the beach til the early hours with a Canadian and a Mexican guy.
The next day we moved into our luxury pad with hot water, air conditioning and a huge TV with cable - the things you appreciate!! We then spent three lush days eating well, getting dressed up (for a change), chilling on the balcony and the beach reading and generally enjoying a christmas break from the madness!
Since then we hot footed out of Costa Rica towards Nicaragua and massively blagged our way across what is commonly considered the worst border crossing in Central America and rather than standing in a queue for many, many hours I found a side route in and we cleared the border in under an hour!
So we have spent 3 days on the beautiful, volcanic island of Isla de Ometepe in the Lago Nicaragua, hiking to waterfalls, hot springs, drinking rum on the dock with crazy Americans and Dutch and watching beautiful sunsets. Unfortunately the owner of the Hacienda where we stayed seemed to hate us, he was so nice to everyone else, we suspect he hates the English (trying not to take it too personally)!
Now we are in San Juan del Sur the surfy, party town ready to party the New Year in! So HAPPY NEW YEAR everyone and here´s to a great 2010!
