We write from our Southern most point of our trip! Patagonia! What a place, just unbelievable scenery. We are in El Calafate and I would love to be able to tell of stories of a horrendous 40 hour bus journey, but that would be lying, we flew, for around 3 hours, best 100 quid spent ever!
The reason for us being here is the Perito Moreno glacier, for those of you not in the know, a massive, huge crumbling ice cube! For stat fans, its 2km wide and 60km long and between 30-40 metres high! Thats the most famous glacier, but there are bigger ones too!!
So we arrived at the airport in the middle of nowhere on Tuesday evening after getting out of BA, which was good for mind, liver and soul, but not before a messy night with a group of students from Cordoba with their dirty black alcoholic potions, urgh, and also taking in a day trip to Gaucho town San Antonio De Areco, a true western town in a dead end world with only one solitary cowboy in the far distance. BA was fantastic, one of our favourite cities and after a brief fling with Rio, we decided we could marry Buenos Aires!!
After the quick trip down to El Calafate we hit the catwalks around Perito Moreno to gawk at that bit of ice, its like a living beast, with creaks and groans and huge crashing chunks of ice falling off, crazy! Then yesterday we had a 6 hour boat trip around Lago Argentina to see two more glaciers and hundreds of massive ice bergs bigger than our boat which had crashed off the glaciers, pretty cold though on that boat!
Tomorrow we head for a day trip to Torres Del Paine national park across the border into Chile, the scenery in the pictures looks incredible, and then another long journey (1hour flight!!!) on Sunday to Puerto Madryn to see the whales, sea lions and dolphins and P-P-P-P-PENGUINS!!!
Quick mention for our hostel in El Calafate, America Del Sur, those thinking South America accomodation is basic, id like to inform you of its under floor heating and ski lodge appearance and stunning views over the bright blue Lago Argentina! amazing! we´re trying hard to get pics up, but the computer always says no!!
Till next time.....xxxxx
