They think it's all over-it is now! Our last few days in Melbourne have been and gone and boy it's been busy. It's been a fun packed week, we started the week going to the Neighbours set. "Everybody needs good neighbours" lets hope that they get along in real life because the close is so small, literally four or five houses in a little close- Pin Oak Close to be precise. Bridgey had her picture taken outside good old Karl Kennedys house. From there we headed to Brighton for a wind swept yet refreshing walk along the beach before meeting up with the Bear Gully family for a bite to eat. That was after Bridgey performed a James Bond stunt (we'll fill in details at a later date!), lets just say 007 would be proud! Over in East Bentley Josie and family cooked us a lovely meal and treated us to a wonderful evening, we were educated in good old British slap-sitck comedy with a viewing of The Goodies (we'd never seen it before) and a challenging game of Pictionary- thinking outside the box is the key to winning Pictionary we've decided.
Tuesday we went for a wander around town and had a coffee in the smallest coffee shop in the world-literally a broom cupboard-good Chai Lattes though. We thought we deserved one after walking from St Kilda to Port Melbourne, it was quite a walk, but a lovely one along the beach. Wednesday we were treated to free haircuts (which thank goodness they did a good job on- thankfully no repeat of Cape Town, seriously if they'ld have come near the back of Jo's head with a razor again i think it could have got nasty). Then we treated ourselves to cocktails at the Sofitel, the best room in the house was the toilets, with a fantastic view over Melbourne. There was a roof to floor glass wall which looked over Melbourne by night- Bridgey ran at it Dirty Sanchez styley- it say's you have to do it in the Lonely Planet (and we know Bridgey always does what she's told). We decided to to drink our cocktails in the plush bar instead of the toilets though-we can be classy girls sometimes. We then joined the crazed indie fans for a night of moshing at the Hi-Fi bar. We'd won tickets to see mad Scottish Indie band-The View, which turned out to be fantastic. We were initially dubious when it seemed to be only twelve year olds queuing up, but they were soon out numbered and out moshed by us oldies. The music was great and the stage diving at the end was even better but when they spoke, my goodness it was like a different language!
Thursday and Friday we went on a mini road trip along the Great Ocean Road, there we saw Koala's, this time they were actually awake, obviously the ecalyptus hadn't yet kicked in. We then drove along the coast and through the lush forests of Cape Otway national park which is beautiful. Unfortunately it wasn't a picture postcard day but the views were still spectacular. We didn't arrive at the apostles until dusk so we decided to view the Twelve apostles (although there are actually only 6 now standing) by sunrise the next day. Instead we went for a wander to Lock and Gorge (rock formations) and Mutton Bird Island which each year is inundated with Mutton birds breeding. Next day we awoke early doors to see the Twelve apostles against a pink (well slightly pink-it was quite overcast) sky and a beautiful rainbow.
Back in Melbourne for our last couple of days of fun n frolicks. Saturday consisted of eating Four n Twenty pies (well just one-they're called four and twenty pies, it's just a meat pie to you and I but a tradition at the AFL, think strawberrys at Wimbelon but not quite as classy, think red sauce dribbling down Bridgeys chin) at the MCG. Today the MCG was home to fans of Hawthorn Hawks and Sydney Swans who crammed into the stadium to watch a fun packed match. Josie decided to back the Hawks (they had more cute players) so Bridgey went for the Swans- guess who backed the winners. That's right,Bridgey, sometimes looks aren't everything. It was great, we loved every minuite, we really got into it cheering and all, we might even extend our tickets so we can stay until the end of the season. (Don't worry people we can't, we've tried-haha, just playing we can't let you have that much peace and quite, plus we don't want the Hilltop cafe to go out of business).
Sunday we spent avoiding the ticket inspectors on the trams and then treating our flat mate to a date with two hot blondes (that's what we tell ourselves). We headed to the Italian restaurants of Lygon street for our last supper. Of all the restaurants to pick we pick the eqivalent of Faulty Towers (nice one Gourav). No-one had a clue what was going on, food took ages, people left, but we got free drinks, so ofcourse we stayed. The food was okay but nothing to write home about, unlike the entertainment which made our night! We then moved next door for puds- Tiramusu and cheese and biscuits and we were happy. In fact Josie was even happier when we finally went to a drive through bottle store (which is stupidly only open until 11- what sort of bottle store is that-not that we're alcies).
So we're all packed up (well getting there) and ready to roll tomorrow. We're off to meet some friends tonight briefly for a coffee then we're ending the week how we started it, by feeding Bridgey's neighbours obsession. That's right, she's dragging us to meet good old Doctor Karl at a neighbours night. We'll let you know what the doctor prescribes.
So until next time......
Take care everyone, have fun and keep your eyes out, if Bridgey has her way we'll be appearing on your t.v sets very soon. "Neighbours, everybody has good neighbours....."
Lots of love Us Two. xxx
