Hey Guys, just to keep you updated with all we have been upto, flew in to a very wet but still hot Cairns, got settled into a very nice and homely backpackers and set off to find out about more about the area and spend more money of course, it just seams to evapourate over here. We visited an aboriginal culture center just outside Cairns and then went on a gondala up into the rainforest to a tiny market town called Kuranda, where Jay brought a boomarang off a mad local, who even gave us a demonstration in the middle of a busy street with cars going by. We then went to a Venom Zoo, where we found out that its not only, snakes, spider, jelly's etc that can kill you over here but the local centerpide would give it a good go to. We took a 3 day tour up in to Cape Tribulation and through the Daintree Rainforest and river where we got on a river boat in search of some salt water croc's, it was great fun especially as the tour guide was a pure ozzy bloke cracking all the jokes he could. Got to see a massive 4.5 meter croc it was a big b***** would't like to mess with him..... We stayed in brilliant accomodation while up there a place called Crocodylus which was basically tents/huts in the middle of forest as you can imagine Nat wasn't to pleased at first but by the time we were leaving she loved it. There was loads to do while up there we went on a night walk with our Guide Possum, he was nuts like Steve Irwin's long lost brother, but his catch phrase was good on ya mate ! which he said to everyone and everything even the trees!!! all the same it was so much fun and got to see loads of creepy crawlies you wouldn't usually see in the day, frogs, big spiders, stick insects and even Phythons. We went on a local tour to the barrier reef from Cape Trib was a bit more expensive than from Cairns but we got told the colours of reefs were more amazing and they sure were, we had a brilliant day Jay did 2 dives and we both got to snorkel with Sea Turtles and seen some stunning coral and tropical fish. Back in Cairns we spent a few lazy days around the towns man made lagoon and visited the night markets.
We also had a enought days up here to be able to head down to Townsville and hop on a boat out to Magetic Island and Jay twisted Nat's arm in to hiring a moke for a few days to get around. Magnetic Island is beautiful a little paradise haven, just one road running around half of it the other half Heritage land you can go on, little beaches and plenty of palm trees to lazy under, a nice contrast from main land OZ. We were on our way to the beach when we picked up 2 girls walking on the road they ended up being a right laugh and spent the rest of the day with us and even chipped in for the price of the moke which was good. We stayed in a really nice backpackers in Nelly Bay right on the beach with its own bar and restarant and lovely big pool.
Just leaving Cairns in a few hours and heading off for our flight from Brisbane out to Fiji can't wait should have some good pitures from that...
