We managed to reach Montelparo in time to spend a few days camping with Sira's sister and partner, and while there sit out some heavy rain. It got that bad that there was a mud slide and some of our camp site got washed away. Luckily Sandra and Carolien had a big tent in which we could sit and pass the time (mostly eating and drinking) while listening to the rain pour down.
In the mornings the weather was still ok and we used this time to go and visit some of the villages in the area. At one of the villages, Ascoli Piceno I think it was called, the local speciality was deep fried stuffed olives which were really good. And on our third day there we drove back down to the coast we had cycled from to spend an afternoon lazing on the beach.
The next day they drove us to the train station in Ancona from where we took the train to Rome. Cycling from the train station to where we were staying we were both blown away by all the remains of ancient Rome scattered amongst the city that is Rome today. We spent the following day wandering around and seeing landmarks such as the Colosseum, the Trevi fountain, the Vatican, St Peter Square, and so many other monuments and remains of ancient Rome that I can't remember the names of.
Today we have left Rome and headed up to lake Bracciano. We have 2 nights here on a campsite right on the lakeside taking the ferry to Barcelona.
