It has been 14 days since we left Belgium by train and headed towards France and in the meantime we've already covered over 800 km.
From Corsica we took the ferry to Livorno, a port in Italy, and from there we camped at a small camping ground some 10 km further.
The next day we went to Pisa to have a good look at the leaning tower. It seemed to be a bit smaller then I had imagined it to be, but never the less it was quite impressive. And to top it off we had pizza in Pisa.
Then we were off to Florence (or Firenze as they say in Italy): a pretty old town with 1 of the only 3 remaining bridges in the world with shops still on them. It was called Il Ponte Vecchio (I think). A bit further in the city was a statue of a bore of which you had to rub the nose for good luck, so we did.
Florence is known as the art capital of Europe and everywhere you look you can find evidence of this. Even our camping ground (in the middle of the city) was named after Michelangelo. They also have the 4th biggest cathedral in the world.
Yesterday we headed for the mountains between Florence and Bologna. I loved the views we had while climbing them. We stayed at a small camping ground in the mountains at an altitude of 900 m. You could feel a difference in temperature of about 15 degrees.
Today we decended back down reaching some astonishing speeds. Thankfully our bikes have good brakes. We made good time, reaching Bologna in the early afternoon.
Bologna has been called the 'red city' referring to the colour of plaster that they used througout the city. One of the main features of the city is the fountain of Neptune, which is to be found right in the center of the city.
Wondering around the city center was a bit less crowed then Pisa and Florence, as for some reason tourists haven't found their way here yet. You could really feel the Italian atmosphere hanging in this city.
Tomorrow we carry on heading towards Venice, which we hope to reach by Thursday.
