After a leisurely morning checking out the shops in Swakopmund and waiting for the truck to be fixed we hit the road after lunch. Traveling up the coast on a road made from salt, we were heading to Spitzkoppe. Our first stop was Cape Cross, where tens of thousands of seals stop to breed before heading north. Seeing so many seals so close was just bizarre, and the smell was horrible!! We took some great close up shots and watched them all interact with their baby seals for about half an hour. Originally we had planned to have lunch here, but thankfully delayed by the truck we didn't have to try and stomach lunch in that smell. From here wee headed inland and we finally made it to Spitzkoppe, a tall granite mountain range. One of the mountains actually looks like a lion, and so far is the closest we have got to the real thing. After setting up camp we were taken on a guided walk to look at some ancient rock art and learn about some of the local fauna. We were starving, so the lure of our camp fire was stronger than any other activity and we headed back for our BBQ, cooked over hot coals. The night continued with some singing around the camp fire thanks to Josh and his new guitar. And because this was a bush camp with no lights we did some satellite spotting.
