Well, what a week it's been. We really couldn't have asked for better weather - up until our final push to Bridlington yesterday. Owing to being unable to book any decent accommodation on the latter part of the route, we ended up having a 55 mile final day. The b & b we stayed in was worth it though. Chocolate birthday cake with a candle in on arrival, superb service, lovely room, fantastic pub down the road and the best breakfast ever.
So - down to business. The final day was, err....challenging. We knew the weather was changing drastically on Thursday. We'd been blessed with ridiculously good weather so had decided that it would have been too easy a journey if we'd had constant sunshine. We were made to eat these words. Thursday was, in a word, horrendous. It was cold, very windy and it rained sideways. It was such a hard slog and the sad thing was that we missed so much lovely scenery through the Yorkshire wolds. We both had moments where we seriously though we wouldn't make it and would have to opt out early. We slogged for 37 miles to Driffield and made use of the Wetherspoons for a coffee and to attempt to dry off. Let's just say, I was so wet, I may as well have jumped in a swimming pool fully clothed. John had to put sandwich bags over his feet inside his cycling shoes as he was worried about trench foot! We then had a final 18 miles and we slogged on. It was such a relief to finally see the sea.
As we neared the finish line, we saw two guys having their photos taken. As we approached, we realised it was the chaps that we'd had lunch with on Monday. We had also bumped into them in the pub in Ripon on Tuesday evening. Couldn't believe the coincidence. So we swapped congratulations and took some pics and well - that was that.
It's strange sitting here today - still in my PJs, no onward destination. Feel a bit bereft really. Although my body is enjoying a rest, I'm wondering what the next challenge could be. Uh oh....here we go again!

Jack Edward Well done, Janey and John - I suppose the next one will be John O'Groats to Lands End!! I only walked coast to coast from Fort William to Arbroath, then cycled round Scotland on a bike that had a limp! But then, I was even younger than you two! Pops
