que Dios le bendiga (may God bless you)
hi
hey guys
i dunno how to get pics on here anymore and i'm frustrated out of my mind, i might be changing my site soon to get one like aprils so it'll work, these computers are ancient and the ones at the cafes dont have any usb openings so this is all i've got i suppose.
i miss you all terribly -- always miss home more when you're sick. april and i both have colds and so this weekend between excursions i slept like no other.
we went to a spanish movie on thursday night. wow let me tell you when ppl complain about not having enough sensored in the us, they should try watching in spain first, i'm so thankful for the things that are sensored in our theatres let me tell you... and i only understood half of the language... poor abril!!!
anyway. then we went to the mall and we bought big hoodie sweatshirts which were incredibly hard to find-- they're totally missing the boat on that one.
we decided to stick to american dubed over movies and went back on saturday night to see "doce fuera de la casa" which is whatever the second movie about the 12 kids is really called we've learned that titles transfer horribly.
well break is over got to get back to class i'll finish up with more later, check april's site for pictures.
love you lots

school has started
hola y como eststais?
that is the vosotros form that they use here in spain, i've been taking spanish for about 8 years in school and never ever learned vosotros, just because mexico is closer doesn't mean people dont go to spain people!haha the teacher just laughs at us because of it, she's totally fun and only speaks spanish which is totally funny, if you dont get it you've got to ask someone in the class, which is only four of us currently, one man from england named walter with a totally fun accent who we've learned is both very smart and very funny, then there's another woman who's name is pronounced much like yuka's but is somehow different, she's from japan as well, and then there's just apri and i. yuka is in another class of beginers, thankfully i wasnt considered a beginer, i'm not so confident in my ability to speak as of yet, but the longer i'm here, i'm getting even better at comprehending, speaking is coming, but much slower. i have to force myself and april says i need to work on my accent because i have a very small voice and i need to be FUERTE with my spanish. we have been learning some of the history here near el puerto as well. it's truly an incredible place.
ever heard of "osborne" it is a type of alcohol, not sure if it's wine or beer, i'm guessing that it's beer because there is an entire block of buildings here in el puerto that is dedicated to breweries of it. then there is the castle i spoke of earlier, it's actually belonged to san marcos who allowed christpher columbus to stay there while he constucted his ship. next to the castle is a display of the first map to include america on it, it is actually a replica, but we could see the shape of virginia and new york and where dc would be, it also showed, not only logitude and lattitude, but also the routes that they took to reach america along with other trade routes, highly complex for not being able to fly over it and catch the exact shapes and routes etc.
we learned about alfonso x who was the first catalonian ruler to enter what was then hispania if i've gotten it all correctly that is, of coarse we learned all of this by walking through it and listening to cristina explain in spanish what had happened etc. it was incredible. we saw many old castle homes, which were very popular while the port became the main place to make bank, the rich came and continued to get richer, the cool thing is that now these places are wall to wall with normal townhouses just added on and they themselves are used as apartments or shoppes as well. the biggest problem i have with the idea of simply adding on is "la plaza de españa" which is a beautiful, very old catholic church built in the early 1800s, its style is interesting because acc. cristina and april it combines gothic baroque and it is really interesting for its size, it is not quite large enough to be considered a cathedral, but isnt considered a normal church.
so that's the history lesson, here's more fun stuff
april and i finally got our heater yesterday afternoon and slept so wonderfully which was great, because we broke down and gave yuka some blankets too and so were so cold the last two nights without a heater we put our beds together so we'd have double the blakets and body heat... so heaters are good! in other news, we finally took down our laundry today, no we didnt get lazy, in fact we wanted the clothing that was hanging out there, but it simply took THAT long to get it dry.which also means that we must be sure to be constantly doing laundry, lest we get lazy and completely run out of clothes! yuka bought a new clothesline in order to do it out on the patio where it might get more sun so we'll see how it goes.
april has tried today with all her might to get the usb plug here at school to upload her pictures, but without any success... pictures will have to wait.
i have set up a new thing for you who would like to write but not to join bloggers, you can sign in as visitingblog as your username and janell as your pasword, just remember to sign your name so i know who it is. talk to me i miss you all very much!
love you lots and lots

hey guys
april and i are up to absolutely nothing today. we went by the school today to see if anyone was there and possibly pick up our heaters early.... no luck.
everyday we go on what my mother would call "aventures" (without the d) which means we ... never get lost acc. april, but we somehow get misplaced here in el puerto de santa maria but there's no better way to find your way around than to be forced to find your way around. it's quite confusing there are roundabouts everywhere and all the streets branch off of them meaning none of them are actually parllel to one another but we found our way and so here we are catching you up. i tried to set up a visitor's account for you to be able to write me without having to join bloggers, but everything's in spanish and "password+username+email address etc" aren't exactly familiar to me, i struggle with computors in english goodness what do you really expect? --hey rach can you set one up if you've ever got time? dad said it'd be easier. i hope all of you are doing well. we haven't done much lately just went through the experience of washing clothes, we have a washer, but had to hang our clothes out the seventh story window, correction I had to hang them out the seventh story window- april was freaked out she sometimes struggles with heights and when we first arrived she was scared to walk near the window or the stair case or something it was funny but not to her. anyway our laundry is airing dry along with the rest of the neighborhood's laundry as we speak... crazy stuff. so last time we wrote i totally got the day wrong and so gained an entire day since and have not yet gained any new roommates, yuco arrives sometime today. oh i have to amend the description of our appartment, it has 4 bedrooms and the water only takes a few minutes with the water running for it to get hot- thank God for that!!! right now it seems really funny because april and i both have the habit of closing the door while we sleep and so we have this huge apartment to ourselves and lock ourselves up in this little room kinda odd. it doesn't get light out here til after eight o'clock- talk about hard to get up for school-- but the sun doen''t go down until after 630 it's weird but hey i'm not at home so i can't expect to feel like it right? man we've been sleeping a lot too, today was the first day we both woke up naturally before 915 and that's after having an accidental 2-3 hour nap yesterday... we're hoping we're all caught up by now because we both think that that is pathetic... except that bed is the warmest place which is our current excuse to sleep life away and enjoy doing it.
the cars here are so little i told my brother my car would be considered a bus and i think people would probably hop in too. there are some streets on which i swear a suberban would just not even fit on, everyone our age drives mopeds and gets dressed to the t everytime they go out even to the store especially the girls leaving april and i in our comfortable (small amount to choose from) clothing to stick out like a sore thumb plus there's the fact that i'm taller than like ... well i dont think i've seen one person my height yet!... yeah we definitely stick out it's great stuff.
think that's it for now
love you lots

okay, so we totally made it!
we had a horribly negative attitude after 3plane rides, 2metros, 2 trains, and a final ride to the apartment (over our 3days of travel and 9 hour time diff). in the process i had my brandnew backpack broken (with only two things missing thankfully my makeup and my card reader for my camera-- no pics for you quite yet til it gets replaced) and had the HARDEST time ever trying to find a way to make one SINGLE phone call i about lost it. at this point april is pretty much our translator and thank God for her and the man who spoke english and took mercy on us on the metro.... we'd still be there with all those options and the train ticket man's horrible instructions, by the way we almost missed our connecting flight in paris too and have both decided we hate french so that was actually a good bad experience because we were incredibly grateful to hear ppl speaking spanish!!!
so here's the happier stuff.
today is christmas eve here and we got to witness the procession of the magi by going directly downstairs from the apartment (we watched half while eating dinner from the window) we live in the center of el puerto de santa maria and can see la plaza de toros from our window with a spectacular view of a bunch of cool buildings, we're walking distance from the grocery store, the school, many restaurates and best of all the beach! all of which we visited today! the weather is good a bit like winter at home (in cali) durring the day but drops off at night more like at home (in lynch). we've learned that the port city that we live in is where christopher columbus built his ship the santa maria we are living here i mean i can't believe it! we've met some ppl that run our school and they're great. cristina only speaks spanish to us and is from here and ian says the spanish starts monday at school and is from ireland and speaks perfect english after our first frozen night, they visited us this morning and told us we can pick up our heaters from school on monday... monday you know me and cold do NOT get along.... so until monday we are basically camping, as in i go home and i'm ALL wrapped up in every blanket in the house. i'm a bit nervous about begining school but oh well such is life. we have more roommates coming our first arrives tomorrow and is japanese her name is yuco and supposedly she knows no spanish as of yet... we're desperately hoping she knows some english!!! the others we've not heard about yet if we get any. our apartment is so much better than i expected it is gated, furnished, has a kitchen with appliances, has two full bathrooms and three bedrooms (april and i share one our fault for requesting to be together but we didn't know what to expect!)
the beach here is different, along with everything else, we have to dryline our clothes outside the window of the appartment and turn on the gas a half hour before we want hot water, but everything else seems to be very much like home except for the language diff of coarse- i expected it to be like mexico but it's more like home with a little european style added to it.
as of yet it is fun, but i ve heard that culture shock is going to set in and i may decide to despise it all, fair warning but for now i'm havin fun.
love you guys
please write comments you're the only english i'll get!!!
