When in Rome....
I´ve settled into life here in San Pedro just as it´s time to leave. I have my last day of class today. I am able to get my point across in halted Spanish and can understand enough of what people are saying to get by. I´m hoping to be able to take another week of lessons somewhere after getting out and practicing a bit.
I moved to a hotel this week to get a little more flexibility. I felt that my entire day was scheduled around meal times. I have a really basic room but the people who run it are incredibly nice and it has a beautiful courtyard and rooftop. I generally get up pretty early and take a walk up the hill to the market for some fresh fruit and coffee, go to yoga, do my homework, etc until class at 2, then go out for dinner, music, and sometimes drinks at night.
I did my laundry in the lake this week with the local women. They didn´t seem to mind or think it was that odd, but my maestra laughed her ass off when I told her. I guess its not a touristy thing to do. There is a natural local soap that works really well, however, the women all use regular detergent. That bothered me a lot. I like walking around up the hill away from the bulk of the tourists and have even started drinking the tap water....just kidding.
I went to San Marcos last weekend...what an amazing place. You can literally feel the tranquility the moment to step off the boat. It´s a very clean and ecologically conscious village...a holistic health hub. There are great swimming spots along the secluded rocky shore. I could have floated on my back all day long and not been sick of the view looking up at the mountains and valleys. We hung out there for a good chunk of the day and then went out for dinner and drinks.
I will leave for Nicaragua sometime this weekend but have lots of stops planned along the way, so won´t arrive until around the 10th of Feb.
