Friday
Got up really early and after breakfast finished packing and off to catch 3 trains (2 x Metro and 1 x long distance train) to Joingy to pick up our boat. We arrived well early and after a necessary coffee walked the 1 km with all of our baggage to the boat depot. Left our baggage there and after a bit of a hassle found a supermarket. Did a big shop and then thought ‘how the heck are we going to get this back to the boat’
Managed to get a taxi and eventually after a short briefing on the boat, driving lesson etc. we set off at about 4.30 pm.
The first lock was only about 15 min up the river, and then we had to wait for about 20 minutes before it was free from the downcoming boats. About 4 boats heading our way all crammed into the lock and we managed to negotiate it very well.
Second lock just as successful, so after another 15 minutes up river we tied up and settled down for a couple of wines with the other boat tied up to the same pier.
Dinner at the restaurant next door and now because it is getting dark, we are all off to bed. Very limited battery power, so when it gets dark we go to bed.
All for now,

Vicki Hi Jane and Paul, Found your blog via Facebook and decided to read it through. Sounds like a great holiday with lots of variety. Enjoy your boat trip and I'll be interested in following it as it's on my wishlist. Michael and I are off to Croatia and italy in 5 weeks, so apart from the stress of trying to get everything organised including my 3 part time jobs, we are really looking forward to it. Should be lots of travel tales to share at Rings this summer. You are very lucky to be missing so much winter this end. Will keep reading. Vicki x
