Monday in Paris
Ok, this was going to be a fairly easy going day, hop on hop off bus with not much walking. Yeah right!!! We started off under Jan’s expert Metro guidance and ended up changing trains 3 times before we got to the place we thought we wanted to go!! Kevin had the bookings for the 2 day hop on bus, but we couldn’t find a b us stop right off, and ended up walking around Notre Dame 3 times. Finally jumped on and settle down for the green tour, past Musee D’Orsay, and eventually down the Champs Elysees following the route of the Tour de France sprint of yesterday. We all got off at the Arch de Triomphe and waited in the queue for about 20 mins. Poor Jan really didn’t want to go up, and I was in two minds, but neither of us had done it last time and I was determined to give it a go. 282 steps later we were at the top to a magnificent view. Took lots of photos of ourselves and took photos for others which was reciprocated. Unbeknown to us at the time, Kevin was counting the number of steps we went up and down during the day right from when we left home. This included steps down to basement toilets, Metro steps (no escalators here) etc.
By the time we got home we had a competition to see who was closest. I said 1022, Jan 750 and Paul 1200. He got the free beer for being the closest – 1385 steps all told, not including the steps up to our bedrooms in the apartment. No wonder we are all absolutely done in – this is beside the miles we have walked. So much for an easy day. Oh no, we have another one tomorrow.
After the Arch de Triomphe we stopped for lunch and a well earned beer (very expensive lunch tho) and then got on the next bus. Changed bus routes on the way and eventually had enough and got the Metro home.
All sitting relaxing doing various things, Jan her blog, Paul reading (mostly with his eyes closed) Kevin plotting tomorrows torture and me the blog, trying to think straight.
More tomorrow.
