J & J's Travels
Apologies to everyone, Uploading pictures and maintaining an online log is not easy out here. Don't think anyone has ever heard of broadband. Playing catch up with the log and photos. I'll just give a brief resume as to what we did in Laos up to when we arrived in Vietnam. As I said before we both love Laos people. We travelled by bus down from Luang Phabang to Vang Viang , which, gets the reputation as being a backpackers haven. On arrival it was easy to see why. The Spectacular scenery just about makes up for the garish and unoriginal feel of the town. From the concrete monstrosities that have been erected over the last 3 years to the far from completion dusty dirt track roads; this town look like a cross between a wild west movie set and amsterdam. However, this place has been set up with the sole purpose in catering for backpackers. An eclectic mix of pizza restaraunts, bars, clubs, cheap guesthouses and activity centres litter the streets. All bars and restaruants have big screen TV's and DVD players displaying all manner of movies, soaps and comedies. The activities are too broad to be covered here, but ask about tubing and spulunking when we return. Nothing to do with the sex industry, I have to add! From Vang Viang, we journeyed south to the capital VIENTIANNE, doing a 3 hour bus ride in 5 hours on a Kayak down the river. Facing grade 4 rapids (of course Jen left the steering to me) and stopping for the occasional 20m cliff jump and barbecued bat. It was pretty intense. (Haven't seen Jen since)!
Vientianne as I mentioned is not much of a capital city. More like a big village. Nothing much to see or do there other than go out with our mates and watch the world cup. Booked ourselves on a flight (couldn't face the 33 hour bus journey) and flew to HANOI in vietnam, which was a massive shock to our system. Which, we will tell you all about later.
