J & J's Travels
Okay guys.
First of all can I extend our apologies for the lack of photo updates. Technical difficulties our end. (slow computers).
Just left Laos for Vietnam. What a shock to the system. Laos, for all those that don\'t already know, is one of the most beautiful and unspoilt countries in the world and that covers both the landscape and the people. With a population of only 6 million and a ramshackle capital city that actually makes Stirling look like New York, this country has retained all of its cultural heritage and french colonial character. The soon to appear photographs of Luang Prabang (South of France with an Asian feel) show just how pretty this poor (by Asia standards) country is. We fell in love with this town. I played Pitong (french bowls or \"Boon\") with the locals, beside the meandering mekong and under the palm trees. While Jen watched on, chewing on sundried and fried buffalo strips, wondering why her man was so rubbish at playing with his balls. I am sure many of you have met some nice people in the world but we can both assure you that Laos people from the North to the South are among the happiest, smiliest, friendliest and most accomodating people in the world.
To be cont.
Quick fact about Laos. Did you know that it is the most bombed country, per capita, in the history of world warfare. Its true look it up. It was bombed solidly for 9 years. 1 bomb every 8 minutes for 9 years or 1 tonne of explosive for every person in the country. By who? The Americans who else? They were trying to get to the vietcong.
Not to worry. The locals have made some very nice plant pots out of the old shells.
American backpackers are so embarrassed about this fact when they meet the lovely Laos people that many of them pretend to be Canadian.
So much more to tell you all. To be cont.
