Very early start as Alison worried we were all going to be drowned and devoted a night's worth of worrying to the project! Happily the day was warm and sunny and the trip clearly well organised. The rafting location was around 1h 40 mins away from Cusco in the Urubamba valley. The scenery was stunning and made for a very interesting ride. Sam and Rory put on a bit a of a show en route playing stone scissors paper and progressed to more aggressive games involving inflicting pain on your opponent (knuckles) to the bemusement of the other occupants of the coach.
A thorough briefing followed arrival as well as changing into kit which turned out to far too big for Tilly who proceeded to go a bit wobbly. Happily our guide Freddy was superb and had us all paddling in unison on the first easy bit. The river got progressively more testing culminating in some stretches of grade 3-4 rapids. Scenery all along was spectacular and no-one fell out (of our boat)!
After we pulled the boats out we were treated to a picnic lunch by the riverside/roadside/stray dogs before the scenic trip back to Cusco.
