We arrived in Arica, Chile (right on the border of Peru) early morning and made our way to the family run hostel we had booked. The reviews had said all good things, but we weren´t prepared for the parenting we were about to receive! The owner was very nice, but insisted on no food in the rooms, we were only allowed to use the kitchen for hot water, and only 3 minute showers please! It all made us laugh, and we snuck our food up to our rooms (which we quickly cooked in the microwave!) in plastic bags! We felt like we were at a bording school with eyes on us all of the time! Arica was really just a stop between San Pedro and Arequipa to split up the journey, but it turned out to be a really nice, quiet beach resort. There was a strike going on across the border of Peru so we had break the coach trend and we got a 45 minute flight over to Arequipa, Peru.
