First of all, as I was uploading all of the photos for this next bit, the computer died on me and because I hadnt saved them on the camera, we lost them :( luckily it was only a few, but I fully take the blame and have learned my lesson!!! So descriptions will have to do for this bit!So on the Thursday we were due to leave for Uruguay, we decided we had time to kill and popped over to Paraguay! Apparently the bit you can ´pop over to´is nothing like real Paraguay, but is a jungle of markets and duty free shops. Really we just wanted the stamp in our passports! We treated ourselves to a big bottle of Absolut Pear Vodka (only 6pounds!!) and a box of white chocolate kit kats!! As we were tourists we got an extra 10% off so our shop only came to 8pounds, bargain! Horrible area though, but was good to see what all the fuss was about. We left Iguassu at 5pm and it took 11 hours to Concordia. At 6am we were abruptly awoken and told we were at our stop, which was 10km from the next bus station (we werent told this would happen when we bought the tickets!). So we got the only taxi which was available to the bus station, but we´d missed the 7am direct bus so we were told by a very helpful man to get a taxi to the tiny port where we could get the boat. This didnt open till 8am, but there were nice navy men to look at who were reporting for duty! The ticket seller got there just after 8 and we bought our tickets from her. We then got told to wait down by the water with another lady and a little random boat came and got us and took us over to Uruguay! I wish you could see the photos, we look so confused the whole time! And it was a beautiful morning on the calm river, try and picture it! When we got off at a deserted port, we had to ask where we were! Then we nearly missed customs as there were no signs telling us where to go, but we spotted a man sitting in the window of a derelict building so decided to ask him. It turned out he was the immigration officer and we got our stamp from him! We then walked about 3 miles to the bus station in Salto (very pretty place, with lots of thermal spas) then got a bus at 12pm which got us to Montevideo at 7pm that day. All in all a very random, adventurous 26 hour trip! Montevideo is a very pretty fishing port where the english tried to invade but did not succeed! Our 1st hostel was not so nice, there were noisy, smelly french boys in our room so we only stayed one night! We moved to another for 2 nights which was much nicer. We ventured up to the ´sun terrace´which was a disaster waiting to happen! Again, James got some amazing photos of the roof tops and I am so gutted I lost them!!We went for our best meal yet, I had the biggest piece of lemon sole I have ever seen! James had Fillet mignon, and we both had starters and wine- came to 20 pounds! A treat we decided we need every so often! We went to a few museums and art galleries, markets and the port, and it felt very safe and the people were nice. A couple of days was more than enough though. We left Montevideo for Buenos Aires on Sunday night at 1am,we could have done the trip in 1 hour, but to save 25 pounds each we did it the long way! First we got a coach to Colonia at 1am which took an hour, then a couple of hours wait (like cattle in a shed!) for the ferry which took 3 hours. We got to see the sunrise over the sea as we arrived in BA at 8am on Monday morning which was stunning!
