We arrived to Belize City at around 8pm, and it wasn`t the nicest place we`ve been to! Luckily we were with lots of other people so we followed them to a hotel and planned to only stay there for the one night! Everyone speaks English there, but it was a bit intimidating to say the least! We headed over the Caye Caulker early the next morning, an island about 45 minutes away by boat. We were very pleasantly surprised, finding a 2 mile long island with cute little shacks for restaurants and bars. We met a local 57 year old man called Bobby who showed us to our `Happy Lobster`hotel. It was £5 per night each, bargain! Considering everywhere else was double the price. We quickly befriended Bobby who we'd casually see each morning on his beautiful city bike, meandering along the sandy paths. He became our source of information for everything! Including showing us where to get the cheap chicken and chips meals we got most days! Ems sure favourite was the huge box of fresh pineapple, papaya and melon boxes you could get from street vendours for under a pound! We spent 3 days on the island, 2 days exploring and kayaking (we saw huge red starfish and a man of war jellyfish!) The last day was spent day celebrating James` long awaited 22nd birthday! We woke up early to open the cards his family had sent over, and the pressie of some new swim shorts from Em! Then while James was emailing his family Em went off to a cafe to ask if they would do a surprise fry up, along with the Heinz baked beans she had bought earlier in the trip! They kindly obliged and James was in food heaven! Then it was off on the snorkel trip to the 2nd longest barrier reef. We fed the sharks, swam with a stroked the stingrays, swam with turtles and saw a multitude of fish and coral reefs. It was a very beautiful trip and has made us both want to get our diving certificates at some point! Then it was back to the island just in time to watch the Man U game with a few beers and cocktails! Dinner that night was steak and a whole fish cooked in a tangy mango sauce, yum! It wasnt too much of a mad night as the island pretty much closes down at 9, and we had to be up at 6am to catch the boat to Belize City to get the bus to our the next country on our list, Guatamala!
