So we left Rio and took a 6 hour bus journey to Sao Paulo, AKA the concrete jungle! We arrived at 6am and wondered round in 25 degree heat trying to find a hostel in a city bigger than London that is not so traveller friendly!! Eventually (after 3 hours!) we found Casa Club in a really nice village about half an hour from the centre. Sao Paulo is the financial centre of South America, so it is quite an affluent area and there is not much to do for us backpackers! Having said that, we did find lots of nice restaurants and picked a couple of our favourites to keep us amused! One being an amazing Sushi restaurant (Sao Paulo has the biggest population of Japanese people outside of Japan). We also met some really nice English, South African and American travellers at the hostel and had quite a messy night playing some 'global' drinking games. Apparently the hostel owner had warned the American guy earlier on not to drink with the English! Then we spent the last day sunbathing on the roof of the hostel in 37degree heat with the other hungover English girls who we hope to meet up again with in Iguassu at some point. All in all we spent 3 days in Sao Paulo and we both felt that was enough seeing as their most recommended must see places were a book shop and a cafe!! (Although the cafe did have very cute turtles in the garden!) Of course there was also the financial district and art museums, but they weren´t so appealing when it was so hot outside! Having said that, we stumbled into a shopping centre which was on par with Bond street, maybe nicer and so both said when we´ve earned our first million we would like to blow a bit of it in there!
So now we are in Iguassu after a 14 hour coach journey and are both far more excited about what there is to see here as we´re off to the beautiful waterfalls tomorrow. We may also take a trip into Paraguay and Argentina later as they are both walking distance and we want more stamps in our passports!
