Hello everyone. Since we last wrote a blog we've been busy doing fraser island and whitsundays! When we left Noosa we went to Rainbow beach which is the gateway to fraser island, the largest sand island in the world filled with freshwater lakes surrounded by sand dunes. We had one night there where we met our fraser group and did our group shopping for the 3 days. The next morning we set off bright and early in our 4w4 with 11 passengers :) We instantly got on with everyone in our group and knew we were going to have a good time. After we got off the ferry we weren't driving on the beach for very long before we got stuck for the 1st time and it was only a matter of time before the 2nd! We all had so much fun digging the sand out from under the tires, we even had to all get behind and push! Jade ended up face first in the sand! We then headed to Lake Wabby which was surrounded by sand dunes, we spent a few hours here just chilling out and having a picnic. We then headed back to the truck and made our way to our first overnight camp, it was a race against time as the tide was coming in and we were only allowed to drive on the beach between certain hours...and we kept getting stuck!! The sea kept attacking us and at one point it covered the whole of the truck and it was like we were driving through the sea! Scary but funny! That evening we had a bbq and consumed some deadly goon! The next day we headed to Lake McKenzie which we had heard was absolutely stunning so were really looking forward to it. We arrived and it didn't dissapoint in the slightest, it was absolutely beautiful, even though the water was freezing. We made the most of it though as you weren't allowed to swim in the sea as of sharks! The sand was completely white and the water was so clear you could see straight through it. It was the exact definition of paradise! (Im sure sam and craig know what we mean!) It's hard to explain how amazing it is. After here we headed to Indian Head which is the furthest point you can drive to and is a great viewing point for whales and sharks..unfortunately we didn't see a shark but we did see a whale :) and a mantaray! We then headed to our 2nd night camp and cooked spaghetti bolognaise, eating in the dark is definately a challenge! We had to make sure all the food was cleared away as the island is filled with dingos who like to nick everyones food and can get a little aggressive so you have to back away and do the dingo safe sign whilst being aggressive yourself, we'll show you when were home! :) haha! The next morning we visited Lake Birrabean which was also beautiful but it was quite chilly that morning so we didn't stay long before heading back into Rainbow beach. The whole experience was amazing and were so glad we did it, met some really cool people.
After rainbow beach we went to the town of 1770 which is another typical Australian beachy town. There wasn't much there atal but it was a nice place to relax on the beach. We even got rid of our black roots here! haha! We just spent our time here chilling out before heading to Kroombit cattle station. The cattle station was an experience to say the least! We our now expert goat catchers! We had to go in a group of 3 into a little pen with about 20 goats. Jade had to lasseu a goat in under a minute but failed miserably so then we all had to run in and grab one by the horns, flip it over and fake brand it! The goat headbutted the other girl in our group and split her forehead open, blood everywhere! It was hilarious even though we felt a little sorry for the goats, especially when someone body slammed one of them! We then had to stand in a circle holding hands with two people holding onto an electric cattle prong thing. So when they buzzed it we all got electricuted, it was scary and our arms felt alive for a couple hours after! We headed back to our camp and spent the evening playing games and learning to crack the whip, Jade's a pro! Before this there was some free nibbles, there was an unidentified meat which we had to try without knowing what it was..it was really nice and it turned out to be goat!! We also both tried pumpkin for the first time! We then got the chance to ride a mechanical bull, Jade chickened out as she didn't want to crack her nose like her daddy but Melissa was the champion, managing to stay on it for 20 bucks when everyone else got about 3 bucks! Definately worth a free drink! :) The cattle station was wicked, all the staff were dressed as cowboys and cowgirls and there were horses everywhere.
After Kroombit we headed to Airlie beach, a 10 hour journey. On the way we stopped off and played bare foot bowling. All the elderlys were telling us what to do! It was another experience to add to our list! When we reached Airlie, we met up with friends back from surf camp. It was really nice to see them and we had a good night out. The next day we started our whitsunday sailing trip. We were on a boat called the Tongarra and there were 19 of us all together. We had really good weather so it made it even more amazing. We had 2 nights and 3 days aboard the boat and we wanted to stay on it for so much longer! We spent our days snorkelling where we got to see some massive fish and turtles :) We also spent alot of the time sunbathing on top of the boat, a dangerous area we found out when your half asleep..and someone thinks its fun to throw freezing water all over you! We also visited whitehaven beach which is the most amazing beach you will ever see. We spent a few hours getting our touristy pictures and sleeping on the beach. If we wanted to go into the sea we had to wear stinger suits as of the deadly jellyfish..which could basically kill you! The food we had on the boat was amazing, loads of fresh fruit, steamed fish and spaghetti bolognaise. It was yummy! We were allowed to sleep on the deck of the boat but unfortunately we missed this opportunity both nights as we passed out in the kitchen from too much goon! Oops! One guy was sick over the side of the boat and dropped his phone at the same time!
When we got back to Airlie Beach, they organized an after party for all the boats that went out that same day. We got free dominos pizza and cheap drinks.. We made friends from two girls from our dorm from canada who were on the other boat and had a good old boogy with them! It was a wicked night, it's really strange how we bump into so many people that we've already met before on our journey up. We pretty much knew everyone in the club! We didn't wake up this morning until 1.30..and feeling very hungover! Oops. We made our way to the lagoon as there's not really a beach here and spent the day chilling out.
We are leaving tomorrow morning to head to Magnetic island for 3 days then Mission beach for 3 days before heading up to Cairns. We've really enjoyed this part of Australia, it's been absolutely amazing but it's flown by. We can't believe we've only got 2 weeks left!...and 6 weeks before were home! It doesn't seem right! Were missing you all loads now and looking forward to seeing all of you. It's been a long time away from home but we still can't wait for New Zealand and Fiji :) Lots of love as always, Jadey and Lou Lou xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
