Day 9 - Standing Indian Shelter
Mileage: 16.5 miles (83.5 Total)
WELCOME TO NORTH CAROLINA!
Today was a great day back on the trail. Even though my right knee is giving me trouble, the weather broke in our favor. It was snowing yesterday, today its in the 60's. Perfect day for hiking. We made good distance even though the mountain right after Bly Gap was ridiculous! I felt like the Ben & Jerry's Brownie Batter ice cream was really weighing me down. Anyway, I arrived at the shelter around 5:45 PM. I immediately went to work making my hammock ready for another cold night. (Can't have both the day and the night I guess). Only a few of us made it this far out of Cloud9 while most remained about 5 miles back (and a little lower down the mountain). Thats okay, I'll just use the shelter as a wind break, stuff my hammock with leaves, and I'll be snug as a bug. (Did I really write that?) I hope to do about 20 miles tomorrow despite my knee being a whiny b****. My ass is chaffed too, WTF!? I think it was that foolish all natural "love the earth but not your ass" soap they had back at Cloud9. Okay, so I'm a little broke-d*** today but I just need to cowboy up a little and push through :-)
Tired but Warm...
