We're going out today to celebrate our Wedding Anniversary as we don't want to be ill when we hope to check out Friday - John's been awesome offering us a blow-up mattress if we're stuck Friday but we're hoping to get a hotel and celebrate our last night.
So, we get our glad rags on and we're off to the city - Jacqs elated because john has straighteners (course he does) and offers her the use of them - an hour later (yawn) the locks are flowing and we're off.
We head to the Highline Park it's a 2 mile walk on an old elevated train track over the city looking out at the river and streets surrounded by beautiful plants, benches and trees as well as rusty disused tracks upcycled into pathways and plant displays. It's pretty busy but well worth seeing especially in weather like today, it's a great walk in the sun.
We get off at 30th street and walk to Madison Square Gardens - hoping for live music in the square again but it's not on today - nevertheless we head to the roof top bar next to it and grab a couple of cocktails - Jacqs got Beergarita - it's a monster of a drink - a huge frozen margarita with a bottle of corona on top. Lethal!
We move on then to Tir Na Nog a stunning Irish bar near Times Square offering a live duet belting out traditional Irish tunes - guitar and fiddle. They're a great act but we find a famous Rockstar Bandeoke act playing in a bar called Baby Brand - it's like a 30-minute journey but they're highly rated and tonight is an acoustic version rather than a full band.
We head straight there and can't believe how small it is - it's the dinkiest little bar fitting no more than 30 people with only 6 chairs but it's packed - were confused as to how the band will set up but they're clearly used to it and manage quite well - it's a guitarist and a percussionist - Matts in line to perform "message in a bottle", "living on a prayer" and "take on me" - goes down a storm as usual and we're pretty merry on the vino so much so we Uber it home. John & Julianna are up with a couple of friends so we hang out chatting with them for a while before crashing - great day! Julianna even bought us a bottle of red to say congrats - so sweet.
