Spent the afternoon yesterday in the Budapest spas and baths which was soooo good. Apart from the horrible smell of the sulphur baths and the weird coloured pools which looked like people had been using them as urinals. We left Budapest on the night train to Belgrade. The train was delayed so we spent a few hours in the station where a crazy lady with no nose attacked some guy and the police got involved and we were convinced we were gonna get shot. The night train itself was awful. Shared with a smelly odd couple and a weird lonely Serbian man. Had literally no space to move and I'm small, imagine if u were 6ft. Also woken by ticket man and armed police for passport checks. So was it worth it?
Belgrade is um... Awful. Pretty much as expected really, grim aesthetics, lots of poor people, but really really cheap. To put into perspective, 2 litres of beer is £1.50. McDonald's chips 9p. MENTAL. However as we arrived early and couldnt check in to the hostel we had to find someway of killing time, so had a look around the old town of belgrade which is just as miserable and depressing as the new town. However there is a nice fortress in top of a hill with a good view. Don't be fooled by the picture attached to this blog, I wish that was Belgrade. Anyway were here for the beer fest and nothing else. So of course we went lookin for where the beer fest would be, we were worried that we hadnt seen any signs or banners if posters for it, and of course when we got to the site at which the we site said it was there was no beer fest. So we were left in the middle of war torn Belgrade in stifling heat thinking where the f is the beerfest and seriously considering leaving Belgrade straight away. We headed back to the hostel thouroughly disheartened... Until we checked Google maps and discovered we were lookin in the wrong place. So all is good!
