Enjoyed today exploring with Uncle Ray and Aunty Gill. We visited my Nana and Grandad Hampson's grave at Toxteth Cemetery. Disappointed to see the church they had the funeral service in a state of ruin.
We then headed off to Sefton Park. It is 30 degrees Celsius so a nice day to walk around the park. Childhood flashbacks as I saw the Peter Pan statue and walked around the lake watching the ducks. Disappointed to see the hospital where I was born , Sefton Hospital, has gone and in its place an ASDA supermarket!
All that walking has left us famished so we headed to Allerton Hall for lunch. A place where Uncle Ray and Aunty Gill had gone to dinner dances when they were courting. It is now a Fayre and Square. We enjoyed a lunch of Cod and an English bitter.
We explored Albert Docks and visited the new Museum of Liverpool. Great display of the Overhead Railway and its history up to being demolished. Important part of my family history given my Grandad worked on the Railway. It also had an interactive display of the Kings Regiment. A Regiment quite a few family members had served in.
The third floor was devoted to LFC and music. Funniest moment when Kirsten had an ah aha moment when she realised the Beatles came from Liverpool. I am not sure whether her Grandad and Grandma will be disappointed with her for not knowing this or relieved she finally knows her history! The things you assume your kids know!
We stayed until the museum closed and headed back to Ormskirk.
Nice dinner at home, listened to the bell ringing practice from St Michaels and then watched Coronation Street with Aunty Gill. By 10 pm we were all crashing and headed off to bed exhausted.
