Hey Hey Hey!
The daytrip down the coast was chill. We drove almost all the way to Wollongong, and stopped by a couple of lookouts situated on the way. We grabbed some lunch and ate it at the beach. Damn seagulls were a bit too interested in our lunch. I reckon I've never before seen seagulls go so mad about food. Scott and Sarah gave them some fish&chips...
I met Felicity that night. We had a lazy take away chinese dinner and watched a movie with her flatmate. A grrreat day!
I had trouble booking a flight to Byron, but I finally made it via a phone call. I tried to organize a farewell dinner, but almost everyone was sick! Me and Scott went to Northies in Cronulla and had some lovely seafood pasta, and drinks. Scott was tired so he went to bed, but I went to hang out with Felicity's flatmate. He showed me around Cronulla a bit.
I got the flight for wednesday afternoon. We spent the day at the beach and then I got a lift to the airport. There was a crazy lady in the airplane.. She was still talking on the phone when the plane was moving and when the stuert asked her to end the phone call she did, but didnt switch her phone off even though I asked her to. I was just praying that no one would call her and that we would land safely in Ballina - Byron.
And we did, thank God. I wanted to surprise Wapu so I took a shuttle bus to Lennox Head (about 15mins from Ballina and Byron) and stayed at a hostel there for two nights. It was just as I expected.. Party every night at the hostel. I wasnt so keen, but had a few beers with some cool crazy guys. I reckon I walked 5km just to get a six pack of beer. Pheew!
I woke up again unnaturally early, 7 o'clock, and went to check out the surf. I didnt have a board, but I knew Wapu would have a lesson there in the morning so I waited. Meanwhile we swam in the lovely +25 degree water.
I was so nervous when I saw the Mojobus park in the parking lot and Wapu was there sorting out boards for everyone. I ran back and forth behind a bush a couple of times 'till I had the courage to run to him and surprise him. His look was something ..that I wanted to see. It took him a while to realize that it was me standing there infront of him. 'APPLES!!! Where did you come from??' -Down there from the beach. ' You've been bulls***ting me all this time! I thought you were in Finland in -20 degrees. Hey, ya wanna a board?'. That's what I love about him, he's so into his surfing and sees that I love it too and wants to help me learn and live the dream. We havent had much time to catch up yet, but hopefully we will go for a surf before I leave on wednesday.
That morning surf was cool. The water was rather calm and glassy. I caught a few small ones.
I was mostly surfing and swimming all that time in Lennox, and made a short day trip to Byron. It was too busy for me.. Robbi didnt go to Coff's Harbour so he offered to let me stay at his place. I spent a very hot day in Ballina town and after Robbi got off work he said that his family is coming over. It would have been a crammed house, so his workmate Josh had offered me a bedroom in his place. Here I am, at Josh's place in Ballina and Ive had a great time! We went out the on Friday and the party went on till six o'clock in the morning. I met Ian, who I reckon is one of the sweetest guys you'll ever meet. And yesterday was one of the best days so far. We had a morning surf at Angels beach with Ian. He taught me stuff and I caught many awesome waves on a rather small board. I was so stoked! I was even more stoked when Ian drove me to Lennox to look at a board. I loved the second I saw it. So I bought it. YES!! I have my very first surfboard ever. Its custom made, second hand, 6'10''x19''x2 3/4 and is just awesome. I had a ride on it today and seemed like a good board. It's very buoyant so duck diving was a bit harder, but I'll get there.
Im amazed how my preferences have changed. Last year Byron was the thing. Now I get anxious if I have to spend too much time down there. Lennox seemed like a boring place last year, but now its chill, though its surf makes me panic. And Ballina seemed like a sh*thole last year, but I reckon I love it the most right now.
I've had such a wonderful time here. I'm living the dream and I dont want to wake up.
