We took the seven o'clock bus to Santa Cruz and from there to Nicoya and then to Samara. It took only 4 hours, which was nice! We did miss the stop we were supposed to get off on, but the driver turned around and dropped us off in the city center. Oh well, there was just one main street so.. you know. We didnt really know where to start looking for a hostel so we got online to check it out, but found only hotels. We walked to the beach and then Pablo comes up and asks do we need help. I think we looked like that with our backpacks and tired look on our faces. Pablo then called his friend and got us a nice deal at Tico lodge quite near the beach. We took it and were pretty happy with it. Got a nice private room with a balcony and a private bathroom+shower, uuh and a fan! We didnt know where Anna was staying so we decided to go to Pizza Pasta a go-go for lunch, it was good i had the pura vida pasta, niiice, and then we went to the beach to see if we'd meet Anna there. I walked up the beach a little to see if she was chillin somewhere but I didnt find her, so we were taking it easy at the beach, by Pablos bar and then I saw that Anna walked by! It was crazy. The last time we saw each other was in San Cristobal. She had to go to school so we talked for a while and agreed to meet at Joes shakes (or sumthin) for drinks at ten.
Silja and I were still hanging around by the beach and then we went to have a beer in Tabanuco bar, just by the beach. There we met Gerald and Eric. Gerald invited us to go surfing with him the next morning at seven. I was straight up for it, Silja wasnt too excited about having to be there at seven, so we decided that eight o'clock was good. + tico time which means that its ok to be there half an hour late. I love that!!
After the beers we went back to the hotel and I had a nap, Silja wanted to go horseback riding, but it was so dark already that she came back to have nap too. The thing with not having an alarm clock is that you dont wake up when you're supposed to... and we woke up around ten or eleven o'clock. We walked fast to Joe's and saw Julie and Anna byt the gate. They had just arrived there themselves.. tico time you see. As it was closed we went to Tabanuco for drinks and we had a great time! The guys bought us some drinks too. Gerald made brilliant coctails! Anna and Julie left early beacause they had to go to school in the morning but we stayed up till they closed tabanuco and then we went to another bar for a beer with the guys. It was a fun night!
The next morning we got Siljas phone to wake us up at seven and we prepared ourselves for the hot sun and the beautiful playa izquierda. Gerald was already waiting for us at his boat, we arrived half an hour late, so it was good that he gave us some tico time! It took about 15minutes to walk to the beach. We went through a jungle path and then a hundred steps down to get to the beach. It was beautiful! The kind of stuff you see in movies. We were the only people at the beach. And we had a great time! Gerald went surfing - he did pretty well!- and we swam and fooled around at the beach. It was really HOT! I burned my nose Its better now.
Gerald had to go to work so we left around eleven o'clock and then me and Silja rented a surfboard and went surfing after lunch. Man! The surfing was great. At first it felt really lame, because the waves felt bigger in Tamarindo, but then Chris (i call him that..), a surf instructor told me to go further out to catch bigger waves. I did and wow it was awesome! I surfed the waves from the very beginning to the very end, all the way to the shallowest point and the beach. I was so proud of myself! And chris said i surf well, yey! After three times it should be good.
We had some dinner and bought some stuff and then we headed back to Tabanuco again. It was really fun over there, and the drinks were good! The local boyfriend was definitely one of the best, right Silja? Anna and her friends joined us and we spent quite a while in Tabanuco, before going to Las Olas to dance salsa! This columbian guy taught me some salsa but i didnt do so good, he didnt lead me so well. but i learned a lot of spanish from him, actually i didnt talk any english to him! only some hard words from time to time but mainly it was all spanish! SO weird. He gave me an anklet as gift.
The guys from Tabanuco joined us when they had closed their bar. Gerald danced with me, and that salsa worked out! It was so easy when the guy just leads you right. Suddenly Silja had this idea that she wants to try out her kickboxing skills at the beach so we went to see nothing will happen to her. She backed out though, which was good. She went to sleep and I stayed at the beach with G and later on he took me to our hotel cos i was so tired... the thing was that Silja was fast asleep and she didnt answer the door. I didnt know what to do, but Gerald said we could go to his house to watch tv for the time being. So we did and we put the alarm just in case. I dont know but we both fell asleep and some time in the morning i woke up and looked at the clock. FCK! it was 8.35 and the bus to San Jose left at 8.30. Great... Gerald too me to our hotel with his car and Silja was there already asking for other buses. Thank goodness there was a connection through Nicoya at 10.15 so we didnt miss our flight to NYC. Lucky huh?
Costa Rica was so beautiful that I didnt want to leave.. I want to go back!
