Today I woke at about nine thirty and felt a bit heady ...three beer hangover! What is that about, although think it was more to do with blogging till three am. Steven was already up and showered and playing on the iPad. I was soon up and munching some toast downstairs with a very strong coffee. We packed our bags and did some last min research before heading off for the lengthy journey to the bus station.
We arrived at the small bus stop near Siam after a slight detour to subways... Mmm sub of the day!! Then waited for the bus to come. There wasn't really much of a stop or any time tables so it was a bit of trial and error as to wether we were at the right stop or not. Turned out we were and after about twenty mins or so the bus turned up, we jumped on and paid the forty baht fare each and off we went. There was a very sweet lady who said she was getting off at the next stop so I could have her chair and I was very grateful... My bag weighed a tonne and I was pretty tired.
The bus took about an hour and we enjoyed the ride as we passed through Bangkok seeing the Grand Palace and the giant swing, I also got to people watch which I love doing. There were the street vendors and the young girls in unusual fashions and even the monk with his hands free phone piece tucked in his ear deep in conversation. After arriving at the station we stepped off and it seemed we were in a derelict car park as all the large warehouses were empty and no one around, however after turning the corner we found a huge three story bus terminal.
We headed in and went to the information desk to see if anyone could help us which despite the broken English and lots if hand gestures the young girl understood us and sent us in the right direction. We arrived at the kiosk and booked our second class seat to Krabi for 666 (hopefully not an omen) baht. The bus wasn't leaving till six pm so we had four hours to kill... Thankfully the bus terminal was like a mall so it flew bye. Firstly we headed to a coffee shop where I had the tastiest hot chocolate ever made with condensed milk instead of normal milk... Very sweet and rich and Steven had a vanilla milkshake. We sat for a while making a plan and reading travel guides before heading to the seating area to wait for the bus. We read our books for a while before heading to the seven eleven for snacks for the journey... We then headed to the food court for some dinner before boarding. It was fifty baht for rice with three sides and was tasty although one of my sides consisted mainly of chilly... A good ninety percent of it! Wow I like it spicy but wow!
After our meal we headed to the bus stance and awaited the bus. It was full of people with buses leaving every five mins or so... I got chatting to a local guy who was heading to Koh Samui and who was asking me about my journey so far. Not long after we said goodbye as it was time to board. It was a large double decker bus and we were upstairs where unfortunately we had booked the seats with the smallest leg room on the bus... Not a good start. We were given a blanket as well as a water, juice and banana cake and we were off. The journey was actually okay and I think had we had more legroom it wouldn't have been uncomfortable at all... Unfortunately for us on top of the no leg room the guy in front of me insisted in having his chair right back crushing my knees. However the bus was very nice and actually puts our long distances buses at home to shame.
After being on the road for a hour or so an in house movie came one... We weren't far from the tv so watched with glee... Well maybe not glee but watched regardless lol... It was the fourth fast and the furious... In thai with English subtitles. Vin diesel certainly loses his manliness when dubbed in a very unmanly voice, speaking in thai. After that had finished a second delight was played, again in thai called 'safe' and other terrible movie lol. I enjoyed having a distraction though and fell asleep before the credits. We were woken at about midnight by a thai women asking for our tickets. I think she was trying to give us food but I couldn't find the ticket and she left. We then fell in to a disjointed sleep.
