Today we packed up early and left the hostel to head in the direction of our new home for the next couple of nights. The new hostel wasn't too far away but only £4 each a night and had amazing reviews... After catching the train and walking a short distance we were already melting and glad to get our bags off. The hostel is situated a bit further out and in a residential area not far from the famous sol cowboy or red light district.
We put our bags down, made a cup of tea and headed to the lounge to look in to the islands in a bit closer detail as we will hopefully heading there Sunday (if the memory cards have arrived). After an hour of so we were no nearer decided so headed out in search of the shrine of goddess Tubti or as we call it... The penis shrine haha! Yep this is literally the one thing we wanted to see in Bangkok, how mature are we? Its a fertility shrine and not very well known but ever since we saw it on a tv show we just had to see it. Women bring the phallic symbols here in the hope they get pregnant. Its in quite a random location in the grounds of the Swissotel Nai Lert ...sort of out the back behind the kitchens and near the river. I bet half the people staying there don't even know it is there. Well we sought it out... Couldn't find it so had to ask a very friendly receptionist who rose her eyebrow and smiled before saying of course, I will show you.
The shrine is small and looks like someone's back yard but met our inner childish needs and we giggled and took some very cool pics. The shrine literally is hundreds of phallic symbols... Including a large penis creature and such... Brilliant! We didn't stay long and left discreetly before walking to the MBK huuuuuge shopping mall as Steven was famished. We headed in and straight for the sixth floor food court where you buy tokens in exchange for any food you could want. We bought rice with two vegetables side dishes each for 50 baht each then went for a Mcflurry lol. We then looked around and saw you could buy any fakes you want... from Mulberry handbags to Tiffany jewellery... couldn't bring myself to buy a fake of either! We then headed home to the great news that the memory cards have indeed arrived!! Whoop whoop... Means we can book our hostel on the beach in southern Thailand.
Tomorrow we will meet up with my Uncle Ken who I haven't seen since i was about fourteen and his wife Nukky who I am yet to meet... Can't wait xx
