I'm so excited about this blog. So here I go!
I went to Elchball last night and it was incredible!!! In the previous blogs, I have talked about Fasnet and their celebrations but who would have thought that Fasnet was THAT big of a tradition and THAT incredibly insane. I took care of Tizian until 7:00 pm (19:00) and when Alex, Fabi, and Stefan arrived, It was about 8:00 pm. They all showed up in their costumes and of course, I didn't have a costume. So i just went as myself (later on in the night, "CUBA" was written on my face with lipstick). We went to Patrick's to wait for the girls and everyone else that was coming with us. Patrick lives in the same town where Elchball was taking place so we walked to Elchball when the girls all arrived. While we were waiting for everyone to arrive I recorded the boys singing Schwa:bische Fasnet songs and although they appear to be drunk...they weren't. They walked through the streets singing really loudly on the way to Elchball which caused people to look out of their windows. There were alot of us walking down the street. I must say, the boys singing odes to Germany (and to Bodensee) was the most German experience I have ever had. When we arrived there were SOOOO many people dressed up in outrageous costumes and singing songs and dancing around. I filmed it when I arrived (the night got crazier eventually). We met up with a bunch of people there and Alex bought me Kolaweizen (spelling is probably wrong). It's coke with Bavarian white beer. It was really good, actually. I enjoyed it. And you can tell it was strong when I started walking around talking to people i didn't know in German, dancing, singing, and having fun after ONE beer. I met tons of people and had more fun than I have ever had in my life. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming. The music was great, the dancing was great. It was PERFECT. We didn't leave until about 2 am (I might be wrong...can't remember the time). But anyway...It was the most fun I have ever had in my life. I met a guy that had on a "Cuba" t-shirt. His friend dressed up as a Mexican with a sombrero and poncho. Alex was a hippie, Stefan was dressed in Camo, Fabi was wearing a kilt (don't get me started with that story). It was just great. Britta was...i'm not quite sure, actually...Haha But she looked nice. Sandra was some sort of Can-can dancer...or Not. I met Ally and Jessy...they were sailors...maybe?. Ok, so I don't really know what everyone was. BIG DEAL. They all looked great. That's my point. Anyway, so I had a blast! And apparently, the crew never stops because I just got an IM that says they're picking me up at 8:00 pm tonight to go to Bauwagen and eat Weiswurst (I was under the impression that it could only be eaten before 12 am). I'm too exhausted from last night and i have no energy to go to Bauwagen. And TOMORROW, we are going to Umzug Langenargen for a Fasnet Carnival. *sigh* The fun never stops! And you thought Americans were nuts. I love Germany!
