Broadway Halloween night - Beauty and the Beast { no not our story!}
We decided to go to a Broadway show. There is a ticket booth next to the hotel which sells cut price tickets and there is usually a big queue- except there was not that night. So while Sandy was thinking about what we should see, I had brought the tickets and she said that was O.K! {some choice}
An amazing theatre,old fashioned in style and feel. No pick and mix, popcorn, fizzy drinks...but we were shown personally to our seats and given programmes. A fantastic musical show- fast moving with clever set changes. Great cast and super singing. The show featured Donny Osmond- What more can you sayl I thought he was playing the part of the Beast and was astonished how slim and athletic he looked. At the interval I realised that he was playing a totally different character!
The show lasted over 3 hours and passed by very quickly. Now comes the best bit. We went to the stage door and joined all of the other groupies waiting for the stars to come out. We had our camera and pen ready.The doors opened and the heavies appeared to restrain the excited middle aged women, their grandchildren and us. Everytime any one appeared we looked at each other and thought "who is that?"If in doubt we took a picture. We did recognise one of the leading ladies and got her autograph. Then he appeared! I fanned Sandy down, gave her a drink and put her back on her feet again. We waited in awe as he worked the crowds- smiling his glossy teeth at everyone,kissing little ones{ and big ones} posing for photos and signing autographs. By the time he reached Sandy she was an excited statue! She could barely speak, but just managed to flap a programme and pen in front of him and stuttered" pleassssse ....?" He smiled, signed and moved on. Finally, his heavy moved him passed his adoring fans away for a well earned rest. The crowds melted away, leaving Sandy open mouthed and staring at Donny's photo on the Billboard.{THIS IS GROSSLY EXAGGERATED! I DON'T EVEN PARTICULARLY LIKE HIM{honestly!}!
Many "hours" later I dragged her away to join the excited Halloween crowds in Time Square who somehow had missed the real excitement of the evening!
