Picure good-Anna-Maria Island better! Watch this space!
Imagine an idyllic place of your dreams-this is it!
THANK YOU ALISTAIR AND GABY for realising our dreams. Where do we start? A brief description of our setting. Our own private swimming pool and jaccuzzi with rainforest vegetation and exotic plants,set in a wildlife park, overlooking water with its own jetty. Different oceans less than 5 minutes walk in any direction- Gulf of Mexico on one side and Tampa Bay on the other. WILDLIFE ENCOUNTERED! Pet white eigret that strolls across to say hi each morning, pelicans and herons by the dozen. schools of dolphins, screech owls{ our neighbours have never seen them},osprey feeding on our jetty post and roosting in our tree, 12 foot man eating shark{ more about that later!} and many other species that we do not meet in Salisbury.
Colourful, quirky locals are in abundance,so we fit in very well! People have been very friendly and sociable. We have our own private adviser in the guise of Charlie- he is one of life's "must meet people"who has got us out of some scrapes.{don't worry Alistair we will leave the house as we found it}
Restaurants. Cheaper here to eat out- simple unpretentious wooden structures at the end of jetties. Atmosphere fantastic and wonderful for people watching- many locations have views of the setting sun. Fish is simply delicious- including a new species to us called Grouper. Cheesecake to die for made with local key limes{cross between a lemon and a lime}Sandy at this moment is drooling over a smoothie laden with blueberries and strawberries. However the islanders do not linger over their food -they eat fast and take away the remainder of their food in white boxes { needless to say we did not need the boxes!} At one exciting meal,whilst sitting at a table at the end of a jetty we were visited by a man eating shark{12 feet long- no exaggeration}Fortunately for us he found a shoal of fish before he found us. Even the locals came out excitedly from the cafe to view it.It was at dusk when our waitress told us the advice she gave her children-"your supper time is their supper time"{ we did not go swimming after our meal!}
When not walking, we have used the free trolley bus to explore the island and its many breakfast cafes. We are exercising regularly in the pool, but our waists are expanding! Bertie is enjoying his well earned vacation and we do not see much of him!
OHHHHH! How can we leave all this but San Francisco beckons in 2 days. See you then!
