Spend another gorgeous day in the Cinque Terre after our night in Vernazza. Woke early and climbed up to SAN Bernadine, a tiny village perched high up overlooking Corniglia and the ocean. Probably only 20 houses and very traditional. As we walked up we passed the odd home tucked into the hillside with a small vege garden immaculately kept. A steep walk down getting down in time for breakfast, a shower and check out. Caught the train in the heat with the hoardes to Monterosso where we spent a couple of hours on a packed but gorgeous beach then after s couple of swims and some sun caught the train to Manarola, the last of the five villages. Again it was gorgeous. Accessible by boat so busy with the boats coming in as well. A really cool rock jump down near the water and plenty of rocks to lie on to sunbathe if you wanted. Found an amazing spot for pasta for late lunch then after one last wander around caught the train back to La Spezia. Yummy dinner and some craft beer in La Spezia before returning to our hotel for bed.
Today we caught a boat from La Spezia to Porto Venere on the coast about half an hour away. Not technically on the Cinque Terre but you can walk 6 hours from here in to Riomaggiore the first town on the Cinque Terre snd all the boats call Porto Venere as well. Just as pretty but perhaps not as geographically challenging with a lovely beach and lots of boats in the marina. Took a strenuous walk up to some fort on what felt like a near vertical track, the way down was almost harder than the way up. Another couple of hours on the beach before heading back to La Spezia by bus. Much more Italian day trippers in Porto Venere. So a bit more “real”
