Okay doke, so I will tell y'all about one of the best days of my trip so far. Not just because I jumped out of a plane at 16,500 feet with a man strapped to my back, but there were other tiny elements that made it immense.
So I've only been in New Zealand since 28th Mayn so very little has happened as I'm saving my money for the main things I want to do. These include swimming with dolphines; bungy jump; canyon swing; Franz Josef glacier climb and a skydive, so that's one ticked off the list, and the most expensive. But I came back with some sweet as photos and a video and they even chucked in a free t-shirt. But I chose a man's one as I hate tight t-shirts!
31st May started off like any day, a little confusing as when you are travelling you JUST get used to what day it is and then you realise tomorrow's a new month, so it throws you off a little. I caught the bus to Nelson at 9am just expecting to see a nice city which happens to have the centre point of New Zealand in it, which I plan of seeing later today. On the coach they pass round forms for actvities, a skydive happened to be one of them and I was um-ing and ah-ing. But then one girl pointed out that the place I was saving my skydive for, Taupo (because it's the cheapest) has been being cancelled recently due to bad weather, and as it would be my last chance to do one in Taupo I decided right there and then that I should just do it here in Nelson! I also discovered Nelson is one of the highest with an extra 1,500 feet, which makes it feel like the little extra money I paid was for those extra seconds of freefall. Crazy stuff. You freefall for about a minute. So no parachute, just falling through the sky. It's a sureal feeling, like you should be looking through a plane window but you aren't, it's just you, there.
After one of the most amazing experiences of my life, we made our way to our lodgings for the night and the timing couldn't have been more perfect! After I'd put my stuff in my room, I joined other people for some beer tasting. I'm not a fan of beer but it's free, who's complaining. And then just my luck there was some cider to taste. Nobody seemed to want seconds so I helped myself to the leftovers. I also deicided to pay $15 (about 7 pounds 50) for a 2 course meal, another highlight to my day! The most amazing roast beef dinner and a chocolate cake with ice-cream pudding. Make sound standard to all you peeps at home but to me, it was luxury!
And so concludes my immense day; watching Borat. I think it's pretty clear things are going pretty well, of course I am meeting people too but it's all about the experiences, no? Keep well everyone.
