Now, as you can see I have landed here in Christchurch and don't be deceived by the lovely photo I chose to display. It is not like that at all. Due to the earthquake the city centre is closed so I am trapped in my hostel, which just so happens to be an ex-prison, it's called Jailhouse (http://www.jail.co.nz/) copy and paste that link, it's a pretty interesting but pricey hostel; one of a few that are running. Why did I decide to spend a night in the city of no response you wonder? because the Kiwi Experience (my way around and original plan to get out of Christchurch asap) doesn't run on a Saturday but will run tomorrow, on a Sunday. Rather odd in my opinion but oh well, here I am and here I'm stuck.
I shall update on my Sydney adventure as I had a once in a lifetime experience that was climbing Sydney Harbour Bridge, I managed to get up some photos on facebook too. Anywho, what an experience! The timing was perfect as the day started off rather clouded but I was just thankful it wasn't raining, then about an hour or so before the climb, the clouds cleared and the sky shone blue. As the climb took 3 and a half hours and we started at 2pm, just as I had planned, I watched the sunset right at the end of the climb and it was breath-taking. My last day in Sydney wasn't so eventful. As I had planned to stay the next night at the airport due to an early flight and there being no point in booking accomodation, I had from 10am until 10pm to explore the city, and I could now give anyone a guided tour of Sydney after my very long, tiring day. But I did do the Pylon climb (one of the towers that supports the bridge) as it was given to me included with the Bridge climb; it gave me the chance to get some beautiful shots of Solonihate and myself towering above the city (all for you Char and Grace), as the bridge climb doesn't allow anything but your able body and the clothes on your back to do the climb or Solonihate and my camera would have joined me for sure.
So after my sleepless night at Sydney airport, I became practically comatose on the flight to Christchurch, New Zealand. And here I am. As there computers only do hour slots of internet I thought "Great, time to upload some photos" but no, no. Despite these flash looking Mac PCs, the owner has blocked being able to read memory cards, sucks to be me.
My first adventure here in Christchurch though, was certainly one that brought me to a low. I was very very hungry. Having only eaten a mates Mcdonalds breakfast at 5am (breakfast for two but saved me some dollar) I felt a very large hole in my stomache, but what's this, so many more McDonalds printed on the Christchurch map, so of I went to go and find one that seemed within easy reach. But the road just kept going. When I eventually got to the place it was meant to be there was no sign of it and I felt like crying. I was hungry and had been walking for what felt like hours but in reality I think it was about 30-45minutes. I quickly spotted a Burger King and decided it was better than no food. As you walk along the streets of Christchurch most places look normal, until you get close and realise parts have fallen down or it looks like someone has pushed the roof off. Anyway, in my head I just kept thinking "This Burger King looks fine, but if it's closed I think I will punch someone" in all honesty I thought it would be fine but there it was, empty. But thankfully my search was over. A McDonalds just on the opposite side of the road (although it can take nearly 10minutes to get across most of their roads) but I gorged in a Big Mac meal, one of many I have induldged in this trip! But of course I burnt every calorie in the piece of crap with getting there and back (which turned out it was about a 40minute walk).
And this so concludes my exciting adventures I have been dying to update you all with. Hope it wasn't too boring, as it was a little for me! Keep safe.
