As you can see, I am now posting from Miami, Florida, although not about it as I have been here for about 3 hours. But I will say 8 people in a room that's about 5 by 8 metres...It's very small and with air conditioning, still rather toasty. But farely cheap so I won't be complaining. It seems like peak season too as it's been a while since I've been in a full dorm room except I am unforetunate enough to be here during the summer and hurricane season, so I am currently experiencing a lovely bit of precipitation but it seems to have calmed down.
So since my last blog I have been to Nashville, TN; New Orleans, LA; Orlando, FL and now I am perched for 4 nights in Miami, FL. Nashville was hot and felt secluded, mainly because practically everybody drives so I was a rather lonely predestrian. Foretunately just as I left my room to go see the State Museum I bumped into some English folk of which two of them are from Bristol and the other studied in Bristol so I was shown the real Nashville, filled with live country music in every bar. A sweet sound that accompanied the hot weather rather well. My brief time in Nashville was enjoyable and the music scene got me all wound up for the New Orleans Jazz.
Some of you may have seen from Facebook that my trip from Nashville to New Orleans didn't run as smoothly as hoped. At the first break stop I asked the driver when we would depart, in giving me the wrong time I missed the bus which headed to New Orleans with everything but me, my laptop, my money and phone. Thankfully I had my more important posessions but I don't think I have ever been more stressed or cried more in my life. When reunited with my hand luggage that I feared would be missing valubles as it was under a seat, a rush of happiness went through me that was similiar of that I felt when I found out I got a place at University. It's a bit pathetic, but when you are all alone, no idea where your things are and if you'll get them back, you fear the worst. When I reached New Orleans my main luggage was waiting but that didn't stop my emotions from running wild. When I finally reached my hostel the air con wasn't switched on. I was hot, sweaty, uncomfortable and still recovering from my stressful ordeal and ended up crying and telling my sad story to some poor American who simply asked me if I was ok. Poor lad. Of course my experience of New Orleans was pretty amazing. If you haven't seen The Princess and the Frog then this next part will mean nothing to you. For all those that have seen it, you'll know about the beignets, which are amazingly delicious, like a fried pancake doughnut absoulutely covered in icing sugar, gumbo, a very nice thick soup served over rice, the one I had wasn't seafood but still very tastey and lastly the concept of voodoo in the film is very common in New Orleans. A lot of shops advertise themselves with the words voodoo in them, so I really need to do my research as to why. All in all, New Orleans is a very cultural and yummy place and I definatly recommend a visit!
New Orleans to Orlando provided me with mre obsticles. The bus was sold out. I ran over to the Amtrack counter (trains) and I asked if I could get a train, as I had hotels and hostels booked I was too late to cancel them and not making it to Orlando in time would mess up my entire journey. The route Amtrack would normally take they refuse to take, instead the train goes all the way to Washington, DC and back! Someone up there really didn't like me! I tried to sneak onto the bus but it was full but thank the Lord above, they were sending another! So at the next stop I managed to catch up with the bus that would get me there at the time I originally planned. I felt like I'd really achieved something, all I did was get to Orlando....
Now of course, the only reason I went to Orlando and paid a stupid amount of money for a crappy hotel was to go to Universal's Wizarding World of Harry Potter and boy was it worth it! The single riders entrances on some of the rides meant short queueing times for little old me. For example, I went on The Incredible Hulk ride 6 times altogether, two lots of 3 times. I must say, I came close to throwing up, and I had the pleasure of actually seeing a child throw up! I also ended up giving in to my child-like dreams of having a wand and bought a Hermione collectors wand, but hey, I'm on vacation! All in all, it was pretty immense and I recommend people visit Universal in Orlando but I really think they should make a Harry Potter only theme park in the UK!!
And now here I am, rainy old Miami! In a kind of warm, smelly, and in places, mouldy room. But free breakfast, so not all bad, and the beach is a ten minute walk away, that's if the sun comes out. I shall update soon but with only 3 weeks left, it's not long till my blogs with no longer be posted. But then I have some of the best places yet to come. Washington, DC; Atlanta, GA and New York, New York!
