It's not until your travel the Globe that you realise how small it is. For example, a boy on the kiwi bus asks me if the logo on my hoodie is Chew Valley in Somerset, turns out we both know a kid who went there. A girl that cut my fringe for me in Auckland works in a hairdressers about 15 minutes from me and within my first hour of being here in LA, I bump into someone who was on my Kiwi bus. Crazy world, and it's getting smaller. With careers giving people the opportunity to take a career gap, it's becoming more flexible than ever to travel to your hearts content.
So I have arrived here and LA and the jetlag has left me with a headache and major appetite. Ok, it's me, I'm always hungry, so probably just a headache. I couldn't sleep at all on the plane so it means I have been awake for the past 23 hours and won't go to bed properly for another 8 hours! So my body is very confused, especially as it's the 28th again as this time today I was in Auckland waiting for my flight. But that's not interesting, you are probably more curious of my first impressions of the great US of A.
Well the one good thing about my landing was they didn't take away my precious butter, nuts, dried fruit and chocolate-a girl my age needs a balanced diet, right? But when it came to getting away from the airport the shuttle took a lifetime. Being 9am we got caught in a lot of rush hour and I experienced my first artery-clogged American. He had about 4 necks and you could feel the bus sink as he squeezed his California shaped derier into the front seat. Then when the driver put my bag on the pavement he bent the wheelie thing I bought in Oz with his stroppy muscles.
But good things come to those who, well, get miserable; as I felt like crying in the lobby. I'm so much more alone now. No brother, no pre-booking and no Kiwi bus to help me. There is free internet and breakfast here. I have money for a tour around Hollywood as I am VERY close to it, not far from Beverly Hills too. A trip to Universal or Disneyland is in order of course and also the 4th of July to look forward to. Seeing America has been my dream since I was god knows how old. Now I just have to live it.
