I have been in Australia over 6 months now, and not once in that 6 month period could I say I had ever been upset. There had definitely been ups and downs as there always is in life, but I had never been upset. The 16th of June changed that fact - it was time for Stu and Jess to head home, and for Scott and Lauren to continue their holiday up the Queensland coast in Airlie Beach.
We all got up early, as all of us had to check out, and the guys had to catch the train to the airport. We walked down to Roma Street station from the hostel, and said our goodbyes. I would be seeing Scott and Lauren one last time in the following week, but this was it for Stu, Jess and Myself.
It proved to be very, very difficult to say my goodbyes. After spending 2 weeks basically riding on a high, with crazy luck for us all and having the time of our lives, it was the rock hard come-down. It was made worse by the fact that now was the time to really face the financial situation looming over me.
As I have mentioned previously, the guys were truely fantastic at helping me out financially whilst they were over visiting me. Unfortunately, the situation was very grim, and I had to face the prospect that without work, I would have to return home in 2 weeks, which really was not what I wanted to do. Australia has been a fantastic place to visit, and I was nowhere near ready to give that up.
After returning to the hostel, I set about catching up with my washing. After doing my washing and checking back in to the hostel, I began the job search on the internet. In the evening I spoke to the family which really helped me get through the day. I then went and watched the Australia / Wales rugby game with my new roommates before crashing out in the evening.
The next day, the 17th, was a Sunday. With little for me to do save job search, I spent most of the day in front of a computer, trawling for work in the Brisbane area, but applying for jobs as far afield as Sydney. After spending 4 hours staring at jobs pages, I had to take a break and thought that writing a few of these blog entries would help out.
Unfortunately, with the memories of the guys being here so fresh, writing the entries simply reminded me of the situation I faced, and sent me on a downwards spiral. I decided the best thing to do was to take an hour and go for a walk outside, which I did.
Although I wandered around I didnt really do anything of importance, and the only real event of the day was spotting another wicked van (see the photo), on the streets of Brisbane. I headed back to the hostel and still very depressed once again spoke to the family, who were amazing and really helped me out. Unfortunately, it was not to be my last difficult day in Brisbane.
