The next morning we woke up, with something of a hangover. We had all thoroughly enjoyed the night before, but Stu, Jess and myself wanted to get up and explore again. Scott and Lauren stayed and crashed out in the hostel whilst we headed off.
The previous day, I had pointed out a spot on the south of the river from where I suspected a great overlook and viewpoint of the city would be. I suggested that we walk there, and Stu and Jess were more than eager. We set off again heading down through Southbank, but this time following the streets rather than the river.
We crossed the main motorway and came upon my suggested lookout. The view was everything I suspected it would be, and we snapped plenty of photos from it. Next to the viewpoint is a pristine Church overlooking the river, with a golden statue on top.
Immediately we were noticing just how modern and clean Brisbane is. Melbourne is full of street art and culture, but Brisbane doesn't have a speck anywhere. There is no rubbish in the streets, the lawns are all mowed and the buildings are free of any graffiti.
After taking photos of the Church and the river, I pointed to the Story bridge and suggested we carry on walking to it, and see what the views would be like from there. Again both Stu and Jess liked the idea, and so on we walked. Around 20 minutes later we arrived at the path that crosses the bridge.
At the start of the path is some rather funny (though definitely unintentionally so) signs in order to stop people considering jumping from the bridge. One sign simply said "Who cares about you?". I could not help but laugh.
We started crossing the bridge and discovered the view towards the city was amazing! We could not help but stop and take photos every 20 steps or so! Eventually we crossed the bridge, and decided to head back over the other side, in order to get a good view in the opposite direction of the city.
After crossing the bridge again, we stopped for a burger under the Story bridge before catching the ferry all the way back down the river and walking back to the hostel. It was a fantastic day of exploring brisbane, followed up by a nice chilled out evening in the hostel.
