The next day we woke up, eager to explore Brisbane city. The sun was shining and it was around 20 degress outside, a nice change for me after almost a month of dull, rainy and decidedly British weather in Melbourne. We headed south across the river and into Southbank, heading for the riverside promenade.
The views of the city from the riverside were amazing, and all of us were stopping for photos at various points. In front of us, we saw the Southbank Ferris wheel, and had to go up. It was a great way to see the city and its suburbs, and had some fantastic views.
After heading up the ferris wheel we continued on down Southbank, past the Maratime Museum, before crossing over the river again and heading for the Botanical gardens. The Botanical Gardens in Melbourne were truely spectacular, so I had high hopes for Brisbanes gardens, especially being in more tropical climates.
Unfortunately I was somewhat let down. The riverside was perticularly poor, but going inland only really revealed open fields with trees and a few nice plants around the outside. Still, we all sat down and enjoyed the sunshine for an hour, before setting off again through the CBD heading the way back to the hostel.
On the way back, we passed and Irish bar, and had to head in for a catch up drink. It was a really nice place, and we had a fair few good laughs in there. Afterwards, we headed back to the hostel and spent the evening meeting other residents and drinking. It proved to be a very enjoyable and late night.
