Hello!
I realise its been absoutely ages since I updated this site so accept my apologies for that. I am now in northern Thailand and enjoying the sun, warmth and jungles.
However, a quick update on what's been happening in the last 6 weeks or so:
I left Japan at the end of January and landed in India where I would spend the next four weeks. I landed in Delhi and the contrast with Tokyo was incredible. Whist Japan's capital was spotlessly clean, incredibly safe and populated with extremely friendly people; Delhi was the opposite. Many people try to cheat and rob you, its hot, its poluted and absolutely filthly. The traffic was unbearable, cows and dogs roam the streets at will and rubbish and beggars are everywhere. Whilst I enjoyed seeing the main historical sites; the city itself was draining and, unfortunately, I could not wait to leave.
I hired a car and driver with a Japanese traveller and headed for Rajasthan. There, we took a camel safari in the desert, visited many old forts and palaces and finished with a look at Jaipur and Agra. My impressions of Jaipiur and Agra were about the same as of Delhi. Agra was just about worth a visit because of the Taj Mahal - easily the most beautiful building I have ever seen.
I visited the Taj Mahal early in the morning when there were no crowds. As the sun came up the Taj changed colour to a low orange and then bright white. It was an incredible site.
After seeing northern India I decided to go to Goa hoping to get away from the crowds and the dirt. Goa was exactly what was needed and I spent a week lazing on the beaches and partying with aging hippies - good times!
I arrived in Thailand at the start of March. Its capital - Bangkok - is very clean and the people always willing to help. Whilst in Bangkok I visited some palaces and buddhist temples and managed to go ringside at a Thai Kickboxing tournament which was fantastic.
After Bangkok I went to Khao Yai national park. There, I trecked in the jungle and saw snakes, bats, elephants and monkeys. I also swam under the waterfall from 'The Beach' - true paradise.
I then visited some temples in Ayutthaya and headed north to Chiang Mai. I plan to stay here for a couple of nights and then head to a place called Pai - an old hippy town in the north-west of Thailand. From there, I hope to do some trecking and rafting in the jungle.
Anyway, all in all, Thailand is a fantastic place. The food rules, landscape is incredible and people are great. Highly recommended.
Take care and I'll try to be in touch more regularly.
