Well, since my last post I've managed to spend a day in Lesotho, survive one of the world's most dangerous cities (Joburg) and make it to Hong Kong. It's been a hectic 10 days or so!
Lesotho is the strange country which is situated right in the middle of South Africa. It's actually all mountains - we were about 3000 metres above sea level. It's a very basic place and most people live in villages and work as shepherds. They sell the wool from their sheep to make a living - a lot of it finds its way to China. Anyway, it's an incredibly beautiful place. We got there by taking a 4x4 up a really steep narrow road called the Sani Pass. That was a scary experiece! It just wound up the side of the mountain - one wrong turn and we were gonna be falling for a long time!
From Lesotho we had a day to get to Joburg and catch a flight to Hong Kong! It was a bit of a rush but we made it (and didn't have to spend to long in Joburg which was good).
And now I'm in Hong Kong which is all Christmas-like and still very warm. And such a busy and energetic place! I'm staying in Chungking mansion right by the harbour. It's a giant old building full of guest houses and immigrants from India, Pakistan and Bangladesh. It has a great atmosphere and is dirt cheap!
So far I've explored Hong Kong in detail and am planning to go to a big buddhist temple tomorrow (the one shown on the picture actually!). Should be very interesting. I'm also waiting for a clear day to go up the Bank of China building and Victoria Peak. It's meant to have great views but so far it's just been smoggy so I'm holding out for a while.
Anyway, I'm in Hong Kong until the 21st so will get some pics on here before I leave (promise!),
Take care xxx
