So....I know it's taken a while but I've finally managed to update this page. A lack of time and access to internet has made things a bit tricky - I guess Africa was never gonna be easy!
Anyway, I am now in Swakopmund in Namibia. It's one of the strangest places I've ever been to. It's basically a German colonial town built where the Namibian desert meets the Atlantic. One the one side there are sand dunes and the other there are beaches - cool huh?!
Yesterday was one of the best ever. In the morning we went sandboarding. Essentially this is snowboarding on sand dunes. It was great fun - managed a couple of jumps and a lot of wipeouts! Also got up to about 60km/hour on a flat board which left my face about half an inch from the ground - amazing!
In the afternoon I did a tandem skydive over the Namibian desert. It was the biggest adrenaline high of my life! We jumped from 10,000 feet and experienced a 30 second freefall - it really felt like flying! It left me on a high for hours afterwards! Definitely one of the best things I have done so far. I also managed to blag a free helicopter ride from some guys we met at the skydive place. They took me over the desert and ocean where we saw flamingos and dolphins - it was great and another first for me!
We have been in Namibia for about a week and half. We were camping in the desert a couple of nights ago which was a great experience - saw cave paintings done by bushman thousands of years ago and slept in a cave. We came from Etosha National Park in the North where we saw a lot of animals and stayed at a campsite with a great watering hole. You could stay up at night and watch the animals come to drink. We saw lots of giraffe as well as rhino. We also went to a cheetah sanctuary which was amazing. We got to pet and feed them which was cool - they were real soft!
The plan for the next few days is to reach Cape Town by 18 November. In Cape Town we leave the truck behind and go it alone. We plan to spend about 1-2 weeks in Cape Town to see Robben Island, climb table mountain and hopefully go cage diving with some great whites! From there we'll probably head to Durban to meet a friend of Hamesh's who lives on a vineyard which should be cool. We'll fly from Jo'burg to Hong Kong on 10 December.
Anyway, hope everyone's cool. Should be able to keep you updated more regularly from now on,
Take care x
