Arrived in Lima, Peru around 6:30 am on December 31, 2007 and met the McGee family at their hotel. We took a tour of the city that morning. I was impressed with Lima as I had read that it was just a big dirty city. But we saw some very beautiful churches, statues, parks, plazas, and buildings. After taking a lot of pictures, Matt and I tried to come up with funny poses for pictures and we thought of the Captain Morgan pose. Then we thought maybe we can strike this pose in front of all the major places we visit and send it to Captain Morgan and they'll love it so much they will pay for our trip! A little optimistic but I will let you know how it goes. After the tour we found a nice restaurant for lunch called Alfresco and had what they claimed was "The best ceviche in Lima!". I wouldn't aruge with them. It was delicious. We tried out Peru's best beer, Cusquena, as well. Had both the light and the dark versions. The dark one was great and the light wasn't too bad either.
That afternoon we took a stroll down the coast of Lima and saw tons of paragliders in the air. It took about 2 seconds for Matt and I to make up our mind and we headed to the takeoff point to sign up. We both went paragliding along the coast of Lima. It was much more relaxing than expected. Just like floating along with the breeze. I would do it again in a heartbeat. Afterwards we met up with Chris, Michelle, Pam, and John and had our first Pisco Sour, Peru's national drink. Made with pisco (grape brandy), sugar, limes, and egg whites, it was very refreshing. I prefer Brazil's caiparinha but the pisco sour was good enough for us to have a few.
We had a nice New Years Eve dinner with champagne and fireworks at Larcomar and then Matt, Chris, and I stayed out to ring in the new year.
