Hola. Currently in Cuzco, Peru and starting my first blog. The trip has been a great success so far. I flew out of Nashville on December 30, 2007. But before I could get on the plane I had already run into a problem. After carefully packing my bags I didn't think to put all my liquids in the same 1 quart bag. Luckily I am far from the first person to forget this and was able to get a bag and rearrange everything. With that small mistake corrected I boarded my planed for Miami and took off. About 30 minutes into the flight the top row of my teeth went numb haha. I guessed it was due to the pressure but I've never had a problem with flying before. I started wonder how the rest of the trip was going to go. Made it to Miami in one piece and had a 6 hour layover. While I was waiting I ran into a guy looking for help. He came up and asked, "Do you speak English?" I had to laugh as we were in the United States but maybe I looked foreign haha. He was Marine returning from Iraq who had missed his flight because he had to be taken to the hospital and was having trouble working through all the red tape and running out of time to catch the next flight. He was a little short for the price of the ticket and his extra money was in his checked luggage that had already been sent home on the flight he missed. I'd been in difficult situation like that in Brazil and some nice guys helped me out so I gave him the extra money. He practically got down on his knees and kissed my feet he was so happy. I was glad to have done my good deed for the day. As I continued my layover I met two girls from Sweden who were trying to send a text message to their parents to let them know they had made it to the United States. I let them use my phone and we chatted for an hour or so before I had to go. I boarded my flight from Miami to Lima and hoped that my kind actions would result in some good karma down the road.
Arrived in Lima, Peru around 6:30 am on December 31, 2007 and met the McGee family at their hotel. We took a tour of the city that morning. I was impressed with Lima as I had read that it was just a big dirty city. But we saw some very beautiful churches, statues, parks, plazas, and buildings. We found a nice restaurant for lunch called Alfresco and had what they claimed was "The best ceviche in Lima!". I wouldn't aruge with them. It was delicious.
