The southern edge of Garda is very picturesque - lake, mountains, olive
groves, vines....... and all with a temperature of about 25 degrees.
The camp site is very curteous, but the it would be as most of the people
here are Dutch or German, there are a few Italiens and even less English.
We decided to go for a bike ride (longer than the usual just pootling about
the place!) and set off on the coast road up the west side of the lake
through Salo and up towards Gardone Riviera. The coast road was good and we
had a long downhill (steady though, nothing major) down into Salo and then a
nice steady jaunt along the coast, unfortunately it all got a bit busy as we
got into Gardone Riviera and we decided that enough was enough as another big
lorry went steaming past! It's not much fun being in fear of life an limb :-)
so we turned around and used some small roads that ran parallel with the main
road...... that was much better. Everything was good until we hit the bottom
of the hill on the way back, at that point Claire told me that she was tired
and didn't have the energy to climb the hill - joking that I could go back
and get the car for her :-( so I pushed her up the hill (nice workout!) -
that seemed to work a treat.
We origianly thought of going over to the north east coast (Adriatic) of
Italy as that is supposed to be beautiful as well but I think we are going to
scrap that plan for this trip....... it's one to save for the future because
we are sure we are going to do this again :-)
Ciao for now
Ian and Claire
