Verona....... again, nowhere to park but this time we are prepared, we have
our bikes in the car so we park a way out of the centre and cycle in - only
to get a short downpour as we arrive in the main piazza - luckly it was lunch
time and we were in need of some sustinance so we headed for the (rather
expensive) cover of a local restaraunt where we sat and watched the world go
by while the rain bounced down.
The local fuzz turned up in two cars to watch over our bikes - they parked
right next to them for the entire duration of our visit - they must have
heard we were there :-) Who told them?
It's a nice small place but it doesn't have the interesting things that some
of the other cities we've been to seem to have (Siena, Lucca, Florence), it
was a bit short on history with only a few things to see and none of them
really spectacular...... very nice though. We couldn't wuite figure out why
either but there seemed to be a real abundance of designer shops here......
like it was THE place to be or something - does anyone know why?
There was a Roman Villa on the outskirts of the town but we ran out of time
to go see that and ended up heading back - Claire had spotted the mother of
all shopping centers to explore on the way back (it was open late :-( ) so we
had to go see what that was like........ funnily enough it was like a big
shopping centre! One thing that was interesting though was that the mother of
all shopping centres had the mother of all shoe shops in it..... the place
was enourmous and had every style of shoe imaginable (don't worry Jean I'll
let you have the name and address!).
We ended the day off in a lucky find - a chinese restaruant and had some
fantastic food. That was most unexpected in Italy as there are very few
foreign restaraunts here.
Enough of all this, we are travelling again tomorrow :-)
