Hi y'all,
this camp site is great, situated on the bend of a river it has virtually
nothing around it but the edge of the town is only half a km away - perfect!
Millau is a nice little town and has something for practically everyone
including a nice selection of resteraunts and bars. The culture here is
really relaxed and although everyone seems very sociable no-one seems to go
out and get absolutely leathered, and the alcohol is cheap. Well it is if you
but it in the supermarkets :-) the good wines cost in the region of ?3 to ?5
and the fantastic stuff costs about ?6 to ?7....... I haven't managed to pay
more then that yet, a)because I'm tight and b) because there is such a
selection that it's just hard to see my way past the lower shelves. A lot of
the super markets have a Vin Cave, a temperature controlled room for the
really good wines - but even they only seem to cost between ?14 and ?20! So
much for the calls by our opposition party to make alcohol more expensive to
limit peoples drinking......... surely all that will do is re-invigorate the
home brew market? Anyway - I digress :-)
The weather has picked up significantly and it's getting warmer and
warmer..... This afternoon was about 35 degrees and almost unbearable (for me
at least), it made th camp site fairly quiet as most people were just melting
in the shade with only the kids having enough energy to go play - even they
were only playing in the cool waters of the river! Periodically I had to go
stand thigh deep in the river (there was also some shade from the trees in
the bend of the river) to cool off - the water wasn't cold, not like the
mountain streams at home but was cool enough to feel almost instant releif
from the heat - a bit like walking into the freezer section in a super market
:-) when it's boiling hot out side.
The day starts out at a nice 20's sort of temperaure and slowly climbs, it's
not until about 1400 that the mercury starts to hit the 30's though and it
seems to continue to climb until about 1600/1630 when you can feel the power
of the Sun just ebs away...... unfortunately it then takes until about
2000/2030 before it's cool enough to start putting tee-shirts and the like
back on, of course Claire is already bundled up in long sleeves, trousers,
thick socks and a fleece top by that point (ok, I made the bit up about the
thick socks!)
And long may it continue :-)
Catch ya later!
