When you think of the perfect 7 days, that week in Buenos Aires was up there as a contender. After a bus journey from Tucuman that can only be described as hell on earth, featuring a seat that didnt recline, no food, no onboard entertainment and sitting next to a screaming baby for 18 hours, I made it back to Buenos Aires! Arriving at the roadhouse to be greeted by an incredulous Sam Thomson who's first words were "what the f**k are you doing back here?!?!" and in time to drop of my bag, say my hellos and go out fot Jules' birthday. First order of the night was Romario's pizza followed by a trip to Milion, which is the most classy establishment we graced with our presence in B.A! After that El Living which is basically a bar with great tunes(including some songs from Trainspotting) and cheap cocktails/spirit mixers, it is also the place where Jamie got hit in the face by a lemon thrown by the barman... Given it was a Thursday we it was inevitable that we would end up at Lost which, as always, didnt disappoint. Friday was pretty chilled, went for Mexican food/couple of drinks with Alice and Lucie which was good. Then Saturday came...and so did Creamfields B.A. After a couple of random Argentine acts we went to Calvin Harris' DJ set which exceeded all expectations and was absolutely insane. Highlights include Henry Cook climbing/dancing on the tower that held up the roof of the tent, and subsequently screwing up his ankle badly...awkward given he was flying to Peru to climb Machu Pichu the next day. Calvin Harris followed by Swedish House Mafia... After a food/drink break David Guetta came on to the main stage and despite him being an absolute tool of a human being he was brilliant. Anyone that has robots dancing and shooting lasers on stage is pretty entertaining. Then, an hour before sunrise, was Fatboy Slim...despite him dressing in a Hawaiian shirt, 3/4 length shorts and no shoes he was still world class. Mixing the Rolling Stone's Satisfaction with his own stuff at 5:30 in the morning as the sun rises over B.A was pretty special. As you can imagine, sunday was a complete right off, given we got home at about 8:30am. Tuesday...Superclassico...River Plate vs Boca Juniors. After getting dropped off at the ground about 2 hours before kick off we got good seats and watched the u19s playing each other which was actually pretty entertaining(red card, 2-0 boca juniors, disallowed river goal in the last minute) and despite the fact the stadium was only aabout 30% full when the fans went for it, very loud. Before kick off the ground was full and going mental, both sets of fans bouncing/singing/druming/sparking flares(or letting off proper fireworks). Teams came out, all the streamers and confetti that you associate with south american football, and the nice touch of the river fans in the tier below the boca fans putting inflatable sex dolls in boca jerseys, tying them to helium balloons and then floating them up infront of the boca fans. Game itself wasnt the best, plenty meaty challenges and river dominating boca (boca would honestly struggle in the SPL). Fans going mad all game, Boca were literally non-stop but when River went for it they were ridiculously good/loud. Game was relatively trouble free until River scored ten minutes into the second, River end going mad, turn round to see the the Boca fans bouncing and generally going wild sparking flares left, right and centre and then dropping them on the river fans in the tier below. Wednesday in general was pretty chilled out until the evening, went to see Harry Potter 7(unsure why it was released in Argentina the day before it was in the US and two days before the UK... It was class. Beforehand I have never seen anyone so excited for a film in my entire life as Alice was before this, entertaining to say the least! Thursday said my final farewells to Buenos Aires and took the bus to Mendoza, and then changed bus to go across the Andes to Santiago. The bus across the Andes was interesting, reaching the border and realising the guy at the bus station had put my nationality as Irish despite me giving him my UK passport when I booked the ticket, this caused no end of confusion at the border and was part of the reason it took 2 and a half hours to cross the border. 25 hours after leaving B.A arrived in Santiago. The taxi driver didnt know where the hostel was so had to stop at the police station and get the policeman to print off a map from the internet. The hostel seems really good though, BBQ last night and a comfy bed with warm showers and a pool.
